I was in the MSU drumline for this show. I remember this as the single most moving thing I've ever been involved in. I still hate Notre Dame sports, but I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the kind folks at Notre Dame who were such gracious hosts for this game. Nice band, nice fans, and an experience I will never forget.

I was an MSU baritone player in this show. I will never forget how (a) the ND band and fans were so welcoming of us and (b) the silence in the stadium when we started this. One of the most powerful experiences of my life.

eddieronks that’s really amazing, my band director was a trumpet play for MSU at the time they did this.

Thank you for posting this. I have always remembered it as the most surreal musical performance of my life, especially the simple move from 1:55 to 2:05, and the crowd's reaction to the symbolism of America coming together to overcome the tragedy. It cannot be seen from this video angle, but I remember at that moment looking up from the field to the stands and seeing the fans all holding up newspapers that had the American flag printed on a full page, creating a giant sea of flags.

This was just posted on Reddit College Football. The only word I could think of was spectacular.

This was performed right when college football resumed after the events of 9/11. MSU joined Notre Dame at their stadium for this performance. My band director was a part of this in the MSU band.
