Been following Kimi since his rookie year. It sucks he's leaving Formula 1 and eventhough he isn't considered to be the greatest F1 driver, he'll always be the greatest to me. Thanks Kimi for everything
@postilaatikko73842 жыл бұрын
Well, who knows if he was the most skilled. When he had a car that had real possibilities on winning the championship, only luck and an unreliable McLaren saved Schumi from losing to him a couple times, and 2007 he won, beating Hamilton. So he has proven multiple times to be faster on track on pretty much equally fast cars than those two, that many say are the all time best. Even at 40 he could compete for points and make multiple passes on a race on a slow car. He was also good in WRC setting one fastest stage time and setting decent results without too much rally experience. It can take many years to see another F1 driver do that. Even on his couple NASCAR races he managed to impress by his driving. Look at him passing on the track and how fast and clean his driving was in F1. What had happened if he had the fastest and most reliable car on grid for many years? No one could have done anything. Bottas has the same thing, fast and very clean racing, and he can rally too. Very few mistakes on track. Just don't give him the 2nd car, or 2nd tactics, and he'll be the best. For sure

@OutcastGrim24243 жыл бұрын
Lewis Hamilton does the same thing. Nico Rosberg talked about it before. He believes it’s helped Hamilton during collisions and why he doesnt break suspension holding the wheel, because it doesn’t allow the steering wheel to snap it keeps it steady.
@_JimS3 жыл бұрын
You don't want to do that let's say in Indycar because they don't have power steering. Power steering allows you to hold on to the wheel without serious damage to your wrists, non-power steering will hurt you. OutcastGrim2424 I watched that same clip and Rossberg mentioned the difference between power and non-power steering cars.
@darrellcook82533 жыл бұрын
I'd probably leave imprints on the steering wheel. Why would you let go?
@sirporkrib76433 жыл бұрын
@@OutcastGrim2424 Yep, and in that same interview Nico stated that the steering system of a F1 car actually allows you to do that without hurting yourself, but drivers like him don't hold to the steering wheel because of instinct.
@PsychedeliKompot3 жыл бұрын
There's some great compilations of Kimi's recoveries. If you let go, you can't influence what the car does anymore. Kimi has saved his car many times by keeping his hands on the wheel and wrestling the car back under control right at the last second. According to Michelin engineers commenting on their work with Kimi during his McLaren years, Kimi has the very best feeling of what the car and tyres do of any driver they've ever worked with. And someone else said (I don't remember who right now) that Kimi has "soft hands" which allows him to exactly feel the force feedback and everything from the steering axis.

I love the Ferrari fans cheering as Kimi hits the wall at 140mph.

In 2005 his crash at Nurburgring due to stupid regulations leading to his front right shaking the suspension apart and a final lap spectacular crash from the lead is more significant than a practice crash at Suzuka. Also in 2008 I'd say that the crash at Spa in the rain vs Hamilton for the lead at race end was more significant. But yeah the crash at Monza does look harder. I guess what is considered "biggest" crash is subjective. Gonna miss you Kimi. You should have had at least two or three more titles to your name if those super fast Mclarens had any reliability.

He could've pitted at 05 nurburg but he and the team gambled for the win instead. I agree it'd have been a better inclusion than the testing crash though, almost taking button out as he scraped down the road.

No he couldn't. The initial 2005 rules said "tyre changes for punctures or wet/dry transitions only". A flatspot isn't a puncture, so the only thing they could have done in the pits was wheel him into the garage. After his car shook itself to pieces, the rules were amended to allow one change per driver per race for a "dangerously worn" tyre.

@@grommile yeah I jumped up and grabbed my head in both hands and yelled at theTV when that happened. Then I, for the hundredth time, swore viciously about the FIA and their mind numbing stupidity.

It seems that Kimi has a habbit of crashing at the first corner in Germany.

2007 worst. Actually the only crash where he ever hurt himself was at Magny Cours testing 2001, where he hurt his back, that started to hurt again in 2013 and he was forced for surgery at the end of the season
