There is also a German silent film made in 1924 "Die Nibelungen" that managed to condense the story down to a mere four and a half hours. While being a long movie it is still impressive to watch.

There is of course Anna Russell too: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3-YlXSHgb6MqNU I'd say the Boulez/Chéreau Ring is a great start. It has great characterizations, the singers also look the parts rather well (no 100+ kg Valkyries) and the direction is not too wild.

Anna Russell was my inspiration for this entire channel!!! I am in love with her!!!! And yes completely agree I've watched the Boulez/Chereau production maybe 5/6 time by now...
