Crazy thing about mud is, the traction is better the faster you go. It's a difficult brain exercise to go fast when it's slick but it will work. Below 11mph (arbitrary number) the tires plug and provide zero control. So never go less than 12mph!!! With more wheel speed you also gain the stability of gyroscopic effect. For real! This enables bike control when traction isn't available. Watch the motocross pros control the bike in mid-air by turning the spinning front wheel. It's a thing. Even they lose control in the air if the front-wheel speed is slow. Those gyroscopic forces are present when the bike is on the ground also! But the wheel has to spin faster to utilize it.
