Our family lived in the house next to that one when I was a kid (40 years ago) that "Gingerbread" house used to be called "the castle" until it burned down, it was rebuilt a few years later. When we were kids we used to tease each other that there was a witch living in there. There is a sign on the wall out front that reads " the lord helps those that help themselves", "lord help anyone caught helping themselves around here". We grew up catching trout and swimming in the creeks. We would hike down to the old boy scout lodge that was overgrown even back then. a look into the past for sure.

My father lived here in the 50's, used to toboggan down the highway, using the snowbanks to slowdown/stop alongside the road. Winters, he also worked at the ski resort, which had rope pulls. They had a one room school house, where if you got whipped, they told you to pick out the branch, they could beat you with!

problem would be the rooad. you need a good truck or its a walk up some steep, muddy one lane road. but it would be reserved for years. over in big bear, they took an old fire tower about 30' up and made it into a room you can rent. it gets book solid certain times of the year.
@PHARRAOH12 жыл бұрын
yes, with a adventure pass or day use pass but there are only 25% of the spaces usually there. they fenced the rest off while they work. but you can park along side the north fork just 3 hundred yards north of the west lot, with the pass. in fact, on any turn off in the range, unless posted no parking

Have you considered doing the first 20 mi. of the PCT? I know it might be hard to get away for a few days and deal with the logistics of getting back to the border, if one was to go south to north, unless you had a partner, but if you like chapparel and desert mountains, I think if would be a great trip.

I moved to northern Utah, about 50 miles from the Idaho border. Not too many red rocks around here. The mountains I go to, most of the time, are about ten miles away but I can walk one mile and be in the mountains, too, east of my little town. Sadly, there are few trails into these places as they all end in vertical cliffs and theres three rock ridges of them, each one getting steeper to the point you have to have mountaineering geer with you. I do like the area though. Beautiful stuff here.

I am surprised nobody mentioned Howard Pruitt. He did all the stonework along the sides of the road. He committed suicide, having got depressed during a spell, he was not working! He used to hire the local kids in the summer to help him carry rocks, and he ran a gas powered, one cylinder cement mixer, that went pow, pow, pow, when it ran. He also did the stonework on the Ontario, Courthouse... His wife found him hanging...

yes, music from a better time. we all reelate to the tunes that were created when we were having the best times of our lives. Back then I travled with a group of German girls for about 4 years. I met them at black angus, when they had a club. Dancing every fri and sat. then when the last of them returned home after 3 years, 2 married, the other with child, I met a Russian woman at torri pines and thus began the Russian adventures of my life. thus, my discoteca alveria and cbeta cd's great music

So I'm the guy that picked up the daughter for a date at that house. The house is not full of creepy things, it's actually full of my wife's family. It's an amazing place, beyond description. I've spent countless days there. I respectfully ask that you remove the directions to their HOME. Consider how you would feel if someone posted directions and a video to your home, complete with commentary and pictures of your cars.... We appreciate your interest in the landmark, but remember this landmark is someone's home. Please remove the directions. They live off the path to maintain their privacy.

if I lived there, I'd have a horse and ride at night with a headless horseman costume. and ask my wife to have a large cauldron brewing in the front yard when people drive by, stirring it and adding toad stools. web of spider, evil eye, cloak of darkness, you will die./ monsters entrails, dragons breath, longue of lizard, certain death. (you know, play the part, freak them out) :-)
