@ChrisandDanya you're most welcome guys. I tripped across your vids on KZbin. I'm older, 73 and not fit enough to tramp. Didn't do much when I was younger (sigh!) so seeing parts of my country (I live in Wellington) I won't get to is a real gift. Xxx🌲

Not much to share to be honest! There was so many hikes we wanted to do in NZ, we didn't want to come for 6 months and have to pick and choose/be forced to do some of the hikes in poor weather. So we decided to move over for a couple years to give ourselves the flexibility and freedom that we wanted, which worked out really well! We've since left NZ unfortunately and we're moving to Canada (Chris' home country) in June

What a great legacy you have left behind from your travels in New Zealand! Someone should recommend this series to TourismNZ so they can bring you back, all expenses paid. Hopefully this helps kill out LOTR style tourism and opens these trails to a wider audience of Kiwi trail-lovers! 🎉❤ 😂

Was it worth it you asked? Well yeah, watching this from the comfort of a recliner, it was absolutely worth it. Matter of fact, I was thinking you should have climbed another one 😂. The view from the peak was magnificent. All the ridges and clouds around you gave it a top of the world appearance. While the entire video was great, I also really enjoyed the shot from 22:50-23:00 of the forest with the sun coming through. Passed through the area four weeks before your hike. It was beautiful down below, but nothing like your view from the top. Another fantastic presentation. Thank you for sharing.

We weren't sure if we'd have time for this trip before departing NZ, but so glad we squeezed it in! Was difficult, but definitely one of our favourites of NZ. That 2nd day is absolutely breathtaking

When I was young, I lived in Richmond and looked over at Mt Patriarch every day. I always imagined it looked like a volcano and hoped that I might climb it one day. Now that I'm not far off getting my Super Gold card, the chances of that happening are rapidly decreasing. Thank you for taking me to the top! Just out of interest, how do you attach your camera to the pack strap while walking? Also, do you use a tripod for distanced selfie videos?
@ChrisandDanya
@ChrisandDanya Жыл бұрын
Never say never Bob! It's steep, but the distances aren't that long, so if you take your time you should be alright! I use a Peak Design Capture Clip to attach my camera to my bag, but there are cheaper alternatives that do the same thing. Yes we do use a tripod for some shots too

@@ChrisandDanya Cheers Chris! Spotted the PD clip in your Rakiura Track video. Not cheap but great idea. What camera do you use?
@ChrisandDanya
@ChrisandDanya Жыл бұрын
@bobsanders9500 currently we use a Panasonic GH6, but looking to switch to the Panasonic G9 II eventually. There are cheaper alternatives to the PD clip that are just as good!

So many times I've gazed up at the peak from the river below. It's awesome you shared this now I can see how the climb would be. Looks hard and steep! Any water at JR hut? Always thought I could make out a trig or antenna on the peak but couldn't see one in your footage - is there a structure up there? Thanks again for sharing!
@ChrisandDanya
@ChrisandDanya 11 ай бұрын
Climb isn't too bad to be honest, just a bit overgrown and steep. But that 2nd day makes it all worth it! I can't remember there being a structure up there, but quite possibly! Also there is water at both JR and Kiwi Saddle huts 🤙
