Very realistic take on the condition and viability of your fleet of locomotives.

My mother ,father ,and wife and I took a ride on your railroad and were having a good time on the ride when the trip was cut short by a spring that broke on the car we were riding in. it became a running joke because that summer thay had spring the springs on there RV. at least twice or three times that summer.Iam happy to see that you are keeping the train running. keep up the good work and have fun with it. Need to keep the steam history alive.

Huh, I kinda was expecting some of the engines that were still operational prior to the closure in 2020 were in good condition, but it seems like for now the only steamer that'll be running in the future is Polson Logging Co 70. Still, having 1 operating is great and sure can't wait to see it operational as well as several pieces of rolling stock too. And you've also got yourself a new subscriber who'll be awaiting the next episode of this series.

That's why she's in the best shape of all the geared engines, and may have a better shot of being brought back to steam over the others. Also, there are MANY operating Shays (LOTS at Cass Scenic in West Virginia, a couple at Roaring Camp & Big Trees in the Santa Cruz Mountains an hour away from San Francisco and Monterey, a couple on Yosemite Mountain just outside of Yosemite National Park, and many others elsewhere), a decent number of operating Heislers (2 operational in the state next door with one on the Oregon Coast Scenic, the other on Sumpter Valley, the oldest working one also fairly close by at Roaring Camp & Big Trees, another fairly close by at the Roots Of Motive Power in Willits, a 3 trucker at Cass Scenic, another at Stevens Creek in Illinois), and a couple of operating Climaxes (One on the Cass Scenic, the other at Clark's Trading Post, and one on the other side of the Ocean on Puffing Billy in Australia). But there are NO working Willamette's, which would be another reason to bring it back to steam over the other 3 besides being the one that needs the least amount of work. However it would be wonderful to see ALL 4 geared engines running again, and maybe someday that can be a reality. :)

@@Chris9017 Even better might be to see RJ Bud Kelley steamed up, but with it being exposed to the elements on display at the MRSR may affect that. if it's in better shape or needs less work than 91 (highly doubt), it could run again before her.

IF time and money permitted, I believe the Satsop would be a nice switcher and maybe for short passenger runs (maybe like a little shuttle?) I imagine otherwise that she could be flat clapped.

Out of curiosity what exactly is wrong with the 5’s boiler? I’ve never liked Tank Engines, but the 17 is different to me, I love the 17. I was out there 3rd day of operations to film and the 70 made quite a show! But it would be cool to see the 17 (my first steam loco) running again!

I don't know if this is viable, but there is an engine, Seattle City Light No. 6 in New Haven, 2-6-2. But I don't think it'd be in great running condition seeing as it has been on static display since the 80's (supposedly). Cute little thing, eventually it would be cool to see run, but again, I do not know if it would be a sustainable option.

Seems like a good video topic! We’ve got the only operational Willamette and learned a lot in the restoration process. It’s a really cool engine that was developed right as we headed into the height of the Great Depression, so a lot of the “neat” modifications and improvements just never caught on and became popular. We’ll add it to the “future videos” list!

If you threw around your checkbook as much as your opinion the orginazation would be flush enough to run all the geared engines. Nowhere in this video did it say that there wasn't a want to run the geared engines. There is if there is money in the account to cover it, until someone wants to come along to pay for it it won't happen. As far as what you have stated, find someone to front the moving bill... I'll wait.🍹🚬

@@therowdyexcavator the way you explain it in the video came across that way as if yeah you could but just show no interest idk man maybe make a video. That would help explain how much all that would cost to restore one of them for most ppl we don’t know what those figures look like / it’s also sad that they just kept running them into grave like that … why not fix the issues as you notice them next time around? An how are you going to buy a 3rd loco if your can’t afford to restore one on your current roster ?

@@anthonycook5238 If they can get a third running locomotive now, they can use it to make money. Even under the best of circumstances and with all the money you need, steam locomotives are intensive and long rebuild projects. One of the reasons railroads ditched them was because of how time and money consuming the maintenance was. Many of the issues he mentioned can't be fixed with routine maintenance. You have to tear the entire machine apart and rebuild from the ground up, assuming you have the money. Most things have to be custom made too. There's no parts catalog.

My son is special needs and he loves trains 🚆🚂🚃🚄🚅🚇🚈🚉🚊🚝🚞🚋🛤 and is glad the Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad is up and running again and hopes that soon or sooner than soon that the Hk Porter #5, Hiesler #91, Shay #11, Climax #10, and the Willamette will all be restored to operation and recommends FMW Solutions for help because steam locomotive restoration is one of their primary functions. He also recommends that the 3rd steam locomotive should be #5. He remembers seeing it operating in a video called I want to be a train engineer starring Steve Poole and in another video called Awesome Trains and in a trailer from a video by Greg Scholl Video Productions called Steam in the West. Last but not least he hopes that with God willing FMW Solutions and generous donors help restore the Shay, Climax, and Hiesler to operation because he also saw all 3 tripleheading in dvd called Great American Scenic Railroads.
