So true. He’s very fortunate to have his grandfather at this stage in his life. I barely knew mine - one passed when I was 10 and the other was a deadbeat dad before my time.

The next time you do a video dricing the auto road, it would be awesome to screen record a phone showing your GPS position in Maps as you make your way through the route, then putting that in the corner of the screen so you can also have the view of where you are along the road for the entire trip.

The Merritt Parkway bridge over the Housatonic river in CT used to be a grate bridge before they rebuilt it in the mid 2000s. Always sounded cool but it was a bit sketchy to drive on. That's the biggest grate/open bridge I've ever been on.

@katherineroland6008 Ай бұрын
I thought of the old Sikorsky Memorial bridge too when Post talked about grated bridges. That bridge was a trip, you could feel the car moving from side to side as the grating pattern changed. It was *not* fun in winter. 😬 Much improved these days.

Love your drives going up Mt. Washington especially with you and your Grandfather's knowledge and love it when he laughs! Reminds me of the drives I would take with my Nana and Grandad into the mountains out here in the Cascade mountain range outside of Seattle with the dogs to place near Greenwater, WA. That's where my Grandad would get may rocks for the backyard garden. Also he got many red volcanic rocks in southwest Washington that are great for gardening as they are both porous for great drainage and heat up the dirt when the sun hits it so it was great to grow strawberries in it. We are also going through a heat wave right now and in the low to mid 90's so I understand where you are coming from. I love the PNW and cannot wait until we have some rain as we do have some forest fires. I pray we do not have as many as we did in the last few years. Hopefully you will make it to Hurricane Ridge in the Olympic National Park one day as it is so large it includes the mountain range, forest and Pacific Ocean. The road also reminds me of the drive up to Haleakalā on Maui. It also has no guardrails and you drive above the clouds. There is a hiking trail/stopping point where you can park if you need a break. The color of the mountain and the view is worth it. FYI according to an article of a person who fishes regularly in Louisiana cites from the University of Florida, deer flies are attracted to bright blue. It also says take a bright blue container and cover it with clear Tanglefoot if you are staying in an area. The flies will get stuck to container and die. My own thought is if you don't want the flies to die you can put a piece of whatever they like to eat in the blue container have a small opening to the container top. Otherwise, like in your previous video just walking away is the best bet as they will only follow you for 100 to 200 feet only a few will follow an extra 75 to 100 feet. There is an article by Again thank you for your great video, the beautiful view and drive!

Awesome, I’d love to drive that mountain! I’d have my car in 1st gear and try not to touch the brake or clutch all the way down! Edit:- I see no charge points on Mt Washington, it must really eat the battery on EV’s. I guess the regen braking helps on the way down.

I'd be happy if there were only one way to get up that mountain: By foot. Too many fatsos and obnoxious tourists. I've done Mt Jefferson(most difficult, I think) at least 5 times and the other presidentials many times. I've done Washington twice by foot but never by vehicle. The view is just as good on Jefferson.
@post10Vlogs
@post10Vlogs Ай бұрын
If you want to avoid the obnoxious tourists clem the mountains starting off an hour before daylight. The last time I did Mount Washington, I started at 4 in the morning. The sun comes up around five I got to the top around seven before the road and the railroad open so had the whole place to myself

@@post10Vlogs Maybe sometime this coming week...Jefferson, not Washington. When the damned humidity goes down a bit. It's only a 45 minute ride/drive truck or motorcycle. The hike definitely makes me feel good and sleep good after..

Sorta makes me wonder why Jack and Jill would climb UP a hill to fetch a pail of water. You'd think the water would be at the bottom of the hill. But then Mt Washington has a few thousand gallons of water at the top. Lol. So geared to snagging the bucks from tourists.

@@post10Vlogs i am sure paying even if a round trip to go up if planning to walk down is still worth it. Both a train ride and scenic walk. I am not a hiker but at least a mostly down hill wouldn't be that bad for me. Good way to see it, with reduced effort. something I will consider next time I am in new England. I haven't been up their since the early 90s and I remember them pointing out Mt. Washington as we drove by.

The easy side of the mountain has a building. You can stay Overnight with food for hikers, about two thirds of the way up. So the hikers can make the trip in multiple days@vontar1

Its expensive $91 adult and $68 for 4-12 yrs with option of keeping child up to 6years on your knee. Presume that is round trip.
