Holy crap, that is one hell of a climb. I wonder what gearing most people were running...34 32? Hats off to you all!!
@PhilAndersonOutside2 жыл бұрын
Greater than 1:1 gearing is very common. An often used strategy is to have a 30x38 bailout as your biggest gear. And if you never use it? I doubt you'll be spending much time in the 30x12, 13, 14, 16, etc. One's fitness, as well as if one is a true spinner, sits/stands a lot, etc. has a lot to do with this of course.

Visual illusion it almost looks like you're going downhill from the camera angle. Hat's off to you and all the other riders, what a feat of endurance. The road I live on is roughly 12% grade in front of my house and I push the bike up it.

It is so intimidating for a senior like me, 64. I could tackle at most 15% gradient with 36/32 combination at present. To tackle this mountain, I need to use 12-36 cog set from the mountainbike setup, I think.

What age group were you in? I rode it that year first time and finished 1:38, went down at 4.25 miles when my front tire came off the ground while turning. Then had to run down hill after my bottle and back up to my bike. The dirt section about killed me, hoping to try again in 18 to celebrate turning 60. Also I ran a 34-30 and it wasn't enough.

They started the pros first, then went by age groups for the next waves....unless you were under a certain age....the youngest riders started in the back. Which I think made for a better video. I was running a 34-36.

Hi Art, I used the garmin virb with a cadence sensor and heart rate monitor paired with a garmin Edge 810 GPS. With the GPS, cadence sensor, and heart rate monitor, you can measure everything- the virb is for video. Have fun!

Did you have any trouble with the wind on the climb, i read somewhere that the highest recorded straight wind speed in the world was measured on the top of Mt. Washington, as i recall it was over 200mph and that was straight speed not gusts.
@abenghiat17 жыл бұрын
No wind troubles. We got lucky that day- winds were less than 20 kts at the top. When I hiked it, it was gusting to 65-70 kts. That would have been tough on the bike.
