Did you do the E ledges on the way back down, or no? I’m hiking Whitney in a couple of weeks, and wondering if I should do the mountaineer’s route. I’m comfortable with that kind of hiking, and I’d much prefer a shorter more technical route, but I am a bit concerned about losing the trail since I’m not familiar with the trail and I’ll be hiking solo. Was thinking about starting in the dark as well, which makes losing the trail seem all the more likely. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

So you didn’t have to do the E ledges on the way down? That’s great! How do you know where to go? Can you use that on the way up too?

This was so amazing! you guys made it look so easy. I just go the permit and will go with few friends in July. You guys took the mountaineer route round trip? we are thinking about taking the mountaineer route up and the regular route back.

Have fun! Yes we took the Mountaineers route. The way you’re going would be fun. Enjoy.

Hi! Great video -around what time did you start hiking for Day 1? Thinking of doing this in August but not sure about temps.

Thanks for watching. We started on Aug 15th at 9:45 Am

Hey nice video. 2 questions if I may. I live in the southeast and was thinking of doing this Aug 1st or so, is it possible to get the pass to hike the day of or day before?(or can we just skip getting a pass) And how many miles round trip is the mountaineers route?
@peaktopixel4 жыл бұрын
I would make sure you get a pass for sure. While hiking both up and down there were rangers making sure everyone had their tags. You can definitely do the Mountaineers route in a day if hiked light and started early.

I attempted Mount Russell last week which is located near the Mountaineers Route. Saw no Rangers whatsoever. Also i believe the visitors center is closed. That’s where one would pick up a permit

We went in August. Days before I posted this video. Thanks for watching!

oops, realized you camped, what was your total moving time? or at least the time to your camp spot
@peaktopixel3 жыл бұрын
I can't remember how long it took us but we were also not in a big rush. We just took our time. You can definitely do it in a day if you start early enough but part of the fun is camping and taking time. When are you going?

Awesome footy Dude. Question, I’m pretty comfortable on class 2 / 3 chutes. How difficult was The infamous last 400 feet to The Summit?
@peaktopixel4 жыл бұрын
The last 400 feet wasn't that bad. It's really just the last 20 feet. You'll get to a spot that you have to traverse a 5 foot section. That's really the only part that could potentially sketch you out. You have a little ledge for your feet but all you need to do it slowly work your feet over that section.
@jeremyhansen51704 жыл бұрын
The last 300 feet is class 4/5 though. So make sure you’re really comfortable with that if you’re going to do it.

I have done the Mountaineer's route 4 times; the difficulty of the final section depends completely on the snow and ice conditions. In July to early August, the class III ledges often have ice on them, and you really have to pick your way up them; not hard, but can get dodgy. Late August they are often much drier, and in late August there is also less snow on the alternate option, which is to traverse sideways for 500 ft to gain the easier North ridge.

What month did you do this?
@franciscoc31803 жыл бұрын
why dont you try it during winter?, feel like you are cheating the route in such bone dry conditions....
