But the card is tied to your social credit score so if you do something that the government or the society there does not like you're not allowed to use the public transportation. There’s some legitimate cases where a rider does not have access to a mobile device, bank card, or bank account, so these people will need the dedicated OMNY card. These people constitute at least 11% of the MTA ridership. However, there are a number of illegitimate reason for them to buy a dedicated OMNY card, including tech hesitance, and it’s really disappointing. Me personally I just have one for a keepsake. I plan to use it a few times for breaking it in, and then use it as a prop for an upcoming zoom round table with my school’s advocacy group about transit fares. Soon I’m planning to up the ante by getting a new smart watch (a Garmin watch, and yea, they do have contactless pay features) and that will be my new permanent way to pay for transit fares

They are issuing this card now. Isn't it the same as a metro card? I guess many people don't have a credit card because of their immigration status or have horrible credits..
@TheRailLeaguer3 жыл бұрын
Technology changes are a big factor in this since MetroCards are getting more expensive to maintain. The cards also have a 7 year lifespan, so they will make less of them in the long run. Some folks have no bank account or smartphone for a few reason, some have technophobia for no reason, etc.
@Shinycelebi3 жыл бұрын
Swipe Cards are a thing of the past and the Metrocard is very dated, even the strip coding on it is very weak, that's why problems with it always happened. A contactless card can't be demagnatized, easily busted, rubbed to where it's useless, easy to replace since it's able to be registered. Not having a card doesn't mean you're an immigrant either, that's a dumb thing to say.
