MTA Long Island Bus: Brief History

For those who may have seen my old New York Bus Guy channel, I have decided to make a new one and return to making bus related content after a long absence. My old channel got hacked and deleted and I never saved any of my older videos, so this is the new channel. I'll be posting mainly history videos and bustalks about various buses. Old bus reviews will be redone to a better standard and I won't use "review" anymore due to some folks criticizing the use of that word when talking about buses since we don't drive the buses we review so it'll be "bustalk" now.

Yes, Im glad that your back. Also just to add: 1. At 2:04 there are actually two images on online of those 1992 Orion V CNGs buses. 2. You forgot the Grumman 870s and Flexible Metro. It was said that Flexible Metro Bus #1011 had flipdots signs before it was retired. 3. Could you repost or remake the DE/DM30AC and the PBL 1998-1999 Orion V CNG reviews. I miss those reviews alot.

These aren't actually private for-profit companies! They are at the funding mercy of the government entity that hires them! The government agencies are the ones who mandate the routes and services windows of the runs! Witness how good an operation Bee line in Westchester County has! That's due to proper funding by the xounty

The MTA was good to keep the LIRR as a result, but they really do need to bring back the MTA Long Island Bus since the NICE (Nassau Inter County Express) is ruining their MTA relationship with the New York City Bus, also the Bee Line company should bring back their coach buses they used a number of years back like in 2007 even some we know that used to tour around the city as the BxM4C bus, this bus competed with the MTA coach buses too, also they need to make a Bee Line Bus that runs to all 5 boroughs as well and not just Westchester, Manhattan, and Putnam, this’ll include Queens Brooklyn and Staten Island it can also run to Yankee Stadium as a direct bus from Westchester

MTA made a big mistake in letting it be called NICE Bus instead of Long Island Bus.

Not so nice bus destroyed the service. The bus service is only usable to a handful of people now. You used to be able to go to a bus stop and a bus would eventually come along (within an hour). Now, you better have a schedule handy. Some routes have one whole bus going around which is scheduled to have 4 departures in the AM and 4 departures in the PM with the last bus departing around 6:30. Suffolk county has better service than that. Then, half of the lines are gone. I used to ride MSBA/LI bus from Roosevelt field to queens. Buses would be PACKED on a Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Nobody riding these buses now. Probably because the schedule is unusable.

@@newyorkbusguy the service is so inconvenient now, people are just back in thier cars. Even some of the routes are split now like the N20 and N22 where you have to transfer at great neck or mineola just to get from A to B. The routes that survived the cutting board either don’t go anywhere, were rerouted inconveniencing more people or scheduled so bad that they’re only usable to certain people. The N78, N79, N80 are basically a joke. 4 buses in the am. 4 buses in the pm (it’s actually one whole bus going around. If that one bus breaks down, you have nothing). Sunrise mall just closed for good so I guess the N71 is next to go with no purpose for that bus. The N72 is just for show. A few buses at night when the N70 and N71 end for the day. If they left it alone running to Babylon, people would be using it.

@@user-rx1qf7qx6l they really destroyed the service. My wife and I were recently at jones beach. MSBA used to have at least 10 bus routes that went there. Now there’s only one bus. So the service is so inconvenient that no one uses it. Then when the ridership drops to near zero, they cut it because of low ridership.
