These etiquette rules are also appropriate for the riding public to practice. They should know these virtues by heart.

Give the MTA credit for having the instructions and dramatizations actually shown by ones with the described circumstances. I hope both operators and commuters learn from this video.

Very nice video, all I say for viewers is to use captions as they are not auto-generated during the speech disability part of the video.

I live in New Jersey I'm also disabled when I did travel by mass transit there were passengers who wouldn't get up for either a disabled senior or pregnant person. One time I was on a bus a lady was griping because the bus driver was loading a man in a wheelchair she had the balls to tell him to ride a different way before the driver could respond I opened my mouth and said that he had as much right to ride any bus he wanted to and I told her if she had a problem then to exit the bus herself. I told her that she insulted me also she asked how I told her that I too was disabled ( I have cerebral palsy and my right arm is shorter than my left arm) She sure shut u after that and got off at her stop .the bus driver and man thanked me for speaking up . I no longer use mass transit and use access link which is operated by NJ transit and you get door to door service its wonderful.

Why wasn’t rules of the passengers included in this suppose to be instructional video? Regulations about wheelchair sizes should’ve been discussed.

Can this video be reshared with bus drivers, I was just told that wheelchairs override other disabled people on mta m116 bus. I am a service dog user, and have to sit in the disabled section. The bus driver told Me wheelchairs were more important and I could get off. Disgraceful

Is this video geared towards bus drivers in small towns because this video is not realistic at all. I suggest that the MTA shows this video to it's bus drivers just as a reminder of how to treat customers with disabilities. I have a mobility problem that makes it difficult to get on a bus if it is not at the curb and some drivers seem to have an aversion to pulling up to the curb even when there is no obstruction they park in the middle of the street and tell me that they could put down the ramp and that would be nice if the bus was parked near or at the curb but when the bus is parked in the middle of the street the ramp becomes steep that is dangerous. I have been yelled at and made to feel embarrassed because I ask them to pull up to the curb last night the driver of the M31 told me that every time I get on the I always have a problem. Them to make my evening more complete a driver of the M15 made fun of me because I had trouble getting on the bus and told me that next time he would not wait for me. These are only 2 of my experiences if I were to tell them all it would be a tome. I am not the only one who has bad experiences with some bus drivers I have witnessed many unfavorable interactions between drivers who scream at passangers who ask for directions or just ignore the passenger. I have seen drivers make fun of people and scream at passangers with disabilities and so much more that this video addresses as incorrect behaviour. Bus drivers need to be retrained in how to have compassion and empathy for not only people with disabilities but also for all passangers.

@MTA Bus Faner! I agree 100% I report these drivers to the MTA but I don't think they are held accountable for their actions if they were they would not behave as they do. I think if more people reported these incidents instead of shrugging them off these drivers would be disciplined and perhaps be put on desk duty for a while.. I also think it would be a good idea to have them experience what it is like to have a disability and ride the bus.

I don't think anything happens when a driver (or any MTA employee) is complained about because of the strong and indifferent union, and probably because too few people actually complain so they brush it off as "disgruntled" passengers. I'm sure action would be taken if more people complained, along with witness corroboration. Combine smart phones and social media and you should get results.

I just had this happen today. I use a crutch, and I have very bad joints, especially in my hips. The driver was 6 ft from the curb for absolutely no reason. Even with the kneel, I had trouble getting onto the bus. Each time I do this, I am actively injuring my hips, so it is not just a preference. Then... he did the same at the next 2 stops! When I got off, I turned and pointed out that he did this 3 times in a row, with no cars blocking the way or anything, and that disabled riders really need busses to pull to the curb. GAAA! I am so aggravated right now. Going to file a complaint, would love to sue him directly because he is deliberately not following a policy meant to protect riders like ME. And you. Did you ever find a useful way to complain that has any results?
