Really do enjoy your videos, thank you! One unforeseen issue I came across when upgrading my shock for the first time was aligning the eyelets, where the rear eyelet is 90degrees offset from the frame mounted eyelet. I managed to get it… eventually, but it required a reasonable amount of force to twist the stanchion + small tolerances on the mounting bolts meant it took a fair amount of effort to get right.

Geat video. Couple of questions tho... 1: Where can I buy the apprpropriate extraction tools (hopefully for less than 120 bucks). 2: How do I know which extraction tool wil fitt my hardware, and 3: Don´t you want to put some kind of lubrication in there? Surely, a bit of grease won´t hurt hem o-rings. - But great video. Keep´em coming.

@TheLostCo
@TheLostCo 10 ай бұрын
Yes, as long as the eye-to-eye and stroke length is the same, then you can install it the other bike. Since you said one bike uses 205x60 and the other also uses 205x60, then that is the same size and you can therefore swap shocks. You will need to swap mounting hardware as those sizes are likely differenet, and you will likely need to run totally different settings on the same shock between the two bikes as the internal tunes are likely a little different. -Mike

So you can use any brand of mounting hardware for any brand of shock, besides the exceptions. The video is about the size of the hardware, but what would like to know: Are the spacers the same size? Or, is the width of eyelets the same across brands? I need a 30x8 bushing for a Super Deluxe, but can't find any from RockShox.

Do YOU have a Trek Fuel, Remedy, or Slash? Are you swapping shocks and need the correct offset fox hardware? Then you will need; 1. Trek Part number 540755 x2 (the bolts) [warning, do NOT get the trek "lower" bolt 540756 as it will be too short, as others have found out]. 2. 60mm wide upper bolt with 10mm bolt diameter, Fox Part number 803-03-321. 3. 50mm wide lower bolt with 10mm bolt shaft diameter and the correct offset spacers, Fox Part number 803-03-338. 👍

Hi guys. Great vid. I am looking to swap out a rock shox monarch (debonair) rear shock for a fox float factory x2 - I’m having issues with the rock shox unit. So your vid is timely. Question; the eyelets on the fox shock are oriented 90deg from the rock shox unit, can the fox unit be changed to fit my bike frame (2017 kona process)?
@TheLostCo
@TheLostCo 3 жыл бұрын
Hi John! If I understand your question correctly, you just need to make your eyelets perpendicular to one another - this is quite easy! If you take a screwdriver (or something similar) to gain some mechanical advantage and place that into the rear eyelet. Then holding the shock body in your other hand, simply rotate the eyelets are perpendicular. Hope that helps! If you are confused or unsure of anything, give us a call, shoot us an email, or you can live chat us on our website. (360) 306-8827 // sales@thelostco.com

I went to my local bike shop to install my new fox float x rear shock on my Vitus Sommet 2018. They said they can’t install it and told me I need to reach out to the manufacturer (which they also don’t know) to ask what size is my frame mount hardware. I told the bike shop if they can measure it using caliper, but they said they can’t do it like that since my bike is very specific and that I need to ask straight to the manufacturer.

@TheLostCo
@TheLostCo 11 ай бұрын
Howdy! As mentioned towards the end of the video, bikes that call for 22mm width mounting hardware will always use a 21.8mm hardware when that is the only option since the frame tolerances are enough to slightly squeeze down to the 21.8mm size. The frame will have a much hardware time expanding outward to the larger 22.2mm size, and most of the time just won't even work.
