That was a very good vid. I"ve done Rockit once and for some reason thought Lynkx was more techy but I didn't get that impression from your vide. I like to start from the Aliso Woods Canyon parking area just to bag more mileage. Next time I think I will do the same, go up Cholla, do lynx, then go back through the neigborhood because I have enough character -- no need to build any more on Mathis, even to get to Meadows!
@mtb_alan4 жыл бұрын
LOL! Mathis gives us too much character. 😆 Yeah, Lynx is a fair bit less techy than Rock-it. It does have a couple spots where it looks like a drop, but it's all rollable. But in general, it's just hella fast! Yew!

Alan, At the 3:13 mark you mention climbing back up via Cholla or back through the neighborhood. Why not climb back up the fireroad just East of Cholla but just before the houses? It's labeled as W Ridge Trail/Wood Canyon Trail on Google maps.
@mtb_alan3 жыл бұрын
Is that the route you take?
@lparker34463 жыл бұрын
@@mtb_alan No. Just asking. I haven't ridden this area since 2003 on an Ti hardtail, coming up from the South at the trailhead off of Alicia Parkway. (I'm now riding a 2018 Santa Cruz Tallboy.) My riding buddy and I are looking for new rides (our regular trails are in Agoura Hills, Malibu, and the San Gabriel Mountains) and when I watched your video, I thought, "I've been there", but it took me awhile to figure out when and where. I remember the Rock-it trail as having some of the most unique trail surfaces in SoCal. This weekend, we're planning on doing your route from your November 30 video with the second loop to ride Lynx, hence my question.
@mtb_alan3 жыл бұрын
Got it. I haven't taken that service road route, so I don't know how it is. I don't like to suggest a route I haven't done. But it's probably fine. I vaguely recall being at the entrance to West Ridge and seeing people coming up it. I'm guessing it'd probably be just as gross as Cholla. LOL!
@lparker34463 жыл бұрын
@@mtb_alan We rode Aliso last Saturday and tried riding up Cholla. Steep and slippery. Couldn't clear everything. Went the paved road for other loops. We skipped Car Wreck, as it didn't clear our "risk-reward" line. But we looped Lynx and Rock-it twice. It was a rad day, for sure. These weekend, we're going to try your Santiago loop from January of last year. In appreciation of all the work you put into your videos, i ordered one of your t shirts.

Thanks! Just east of Aliso, there is Crystal Cove State Park. There are some rad trails over there like Lizard and Laguna Ridge (aka T&A). There are also some other trails which I totally don't know about. 😬 North of Aliso is Santiago Oaks Regional Park. Some fun trails there are Chutes, Cactus, Hawk, Waterfall, and Yucca. When I go there, I actually enter from Irvine Regional Park and park in Lot C. With Aliso, Crystal Cove (which a lot of people will refer to as just "Laguna"), and Santiago, you can stay pretty occupied. I haven't done this one yet, but if you can get a shuttle, Mt. Wilson DH looks like a blast. Make sure and check here for closures and the like: www.ocparks.com/parks/alerts OC Parks is pretty proactive about closing trails when they're too wet. I'd suggest Skypark at Santa's Village, but they're restricting entry to annual pass holders for the time being.

Dag. Sorry to hear that. I am probably biased because Kelly is such a good rider. But to be fair, the order of trails in this route goes from easier to harder. That being said, I don't really know why Lynx is a black diamond and Rock-it is a blue.
