I am watching this a second time. At a certain level, this is a comparison between Jazz style versus Stingray style basses. The 535 gets monster active Jazz Bass is that is what the user wants while the Super 5 takes the Stingray in directions that neither the single H or HH Music Man varieties go. Tonally, I don’t see where is better, this is a case of two kinds of good. That said, I bet the 535 plays like a dream.

The Super 5 appeared to have more bite than the 535. Both are nice, but I'm leaning towards that Super 5 Mod!

I like the RotM top on the USA more and think it would look more elegant with a plain rather than birdseye fretboard. Not that I wouldn't own it, or the Kingston. Very nice axes Lobsy.

Man Lobster. You keep making these discussions harder. Which one shall it be? I say...... Both. The 535 with its modern growly jazz tone. And the Super with its Stingray tone. Both bottom ends seem to quiet down and then come out growling. I'm sure that could be adjusted with the EQ to even that out. I gotta admit. I think the pure versatility & price of the Super makes it a winner for me. And would save me $ from buying a Music Man.

Yo Lobster!? Was the bridge replacement on the Super 5 a direct fit (mounting wholes)? I noticed the stock Kingston basses have 4 mount holes across. However the Hipshot 19”mm has 5, while the 18mm has 4. Which spacing did you go with? Thanks so much.
@LowEndLobster2 жыл бұрын
Heyo! I didn't mod this bass, all the work was done by MTD. I don't believe the hipshot bridge has a different mounting screw pattern vs stock.

Lobs, I’d like your opinion. I’m torn between a MTD 535 and an EB MM Special Ray HH. You’ve featured both. Could you comment to the strengths of both? Preference?

It's all about the Super 5 for me. The tone really grabs my ear whereas the 535 doesn't. I admit that I'm partial to the StingRay, Ken Smith, and Cirrus USA tones!!! To each his tone. $9k? NOPE!!!

Hello. I do not know why, but after watching each video I always want to say that the sound is the same everywhere). The sound is the same on each instrument. Maybe only my ears work like that, but I listen to hundreds of reviews through the same Audio-technica m50x, and only in relation to your videos there is such an opinion). I hope you will not understand me verbatim, and it's not about the capabilities of the equalizer, but its about all the sounds that you extract from the instruments - they have something very strong in common, I'm talking about the character of the sound. If they wake me up in the middle of the night and let me listen to any segment of your bass guitar playing - I'll tell you right away - it's a lobster playing) I'm talking about fingerplaying technic. not about slap)) I even know what the answer is - in the fingers. You have a great consistency in playing youre licks. You play absolutely the same everywhere, and I am more than convinced that 90% of the sound is created by a person and by the way he plays, how the fingertips touch the strings, with what force, where exactly it happens, etc. but I don't get that impression from any other channel. There, If there is a review of music-man, then you hear that this is music-man. If it's a rickenbacker, then it's a rickenbacker. The difference is much stronger. It is also possible that the deal is in the recording chain. I constantly every time hear a lot of compression. Moreover, I will allow myself to say that the compression is quite strong and with a quick attack. Allso maybe the reason is where you get the signal from, from the combo, or you record directly into the sound card? Is it possible from you to record a signal from two different devices at the same time. For example, the first signal is sent directly to the sound card (for example, through the active di-box, if the bass itself is passive, and directly into the line if the bass is active), and the second signal is taken either through the microphone or through the di-box of the combo through which you play. And change the signal from one to another in the the video to see if there a difference. Thank you for the work done. With respect.
