Oh boy, seeing an Elf tribal always brings me back to my old days, when I used to compete in Legacy tournaments with an Elf tribal, my first true competitive deck ever. Nothing beats the feeling of playing half your deck by turn 2 and filling the board with 6/6s and 7/7s.

Question for match 1: you where at 2 life and the opponent had a 2/2 with lifelink and Vito in play. Wouldnt you have been dead if he blocked and gained the 2 life? Or would you both be dead because you had lethal? Im so confused about the timing...

Having only watched the intro, as well as having only ever made it to mythic using an Elf deck, I feel like mono-red/burn is actually usually pretty good against elves. Elves rely on explosive starts, and unless you can go off with a Realmwalker or get lucky with some Elvish Visionaries and/or run a Beast Whisperer, you get set reaaaaaaally far back with just a couple of burn spells.

@@jamesg9582 Plenty of times back when it was relevant. Nowadays it is mostly a meme card. You can play it with Torbrann or deathtouch but other than it is most likely not going to achieve anything against elves.

@@Weltenbastler2000 16 1 toughness creatures in the elf deck. Save burn for important lords and play ahead with tempo. Chainwhirler is hard to block and fight against. Its not as simple as play chainwhirler and win. But it does heavily swing into reds favor with chainwhirlers. Chain also cleans up the 1 toughness tokens the elf deck can create.

The trigger from Vito goes on the stack when the opponent is at 0 life (edit: technically negative life), so it won't end up resolving. LVD would still get the win.

Another great video! It looked like the opponent really should have done the math in the second to last game. They could live by only blocking 6 of your 8 attackers, leaving the two warmasters alive. They would have 5 attackers on the swing back and you only had 4 blockers. Any lord off the top would pump their only 1/1 to give them lethal. An interesting game in any case!

I'm not super familiar with the detailed rules of magic but would the first game not have been a tie since the lifelinker on defense could trigger vito. Or does the game check if a player has lost before the trigger can happen.

I like them as they can also combo to remove a land off the top for Realmwalker. It's rarely a bad card and every extra elf counts.

Match 5: Just when Torbran touches the board oppo attacks whit an EC in a BTE, Legen Blocks whit a 2/3 and a 3/3. First strike deals 5 to the 2/3 (oppo mising the damage seting? maybe), now just a 3/3 facing 5 damage whit trample (2 are aditional damage from Torbram)... Legen whit just 1 life, why the damage dind´t touched him? Sorry for the bad english (Auto-learned Argentinian pal here!), loving and lerning a lot whit your content Legen! keep the amazing work!

21:39 how does the burning tree emissary not kill LVD here? It has doublestrike and trample, and every time it hits it should be dealing 5 damage because of Torbran. First hit should kill Jaspera sentinel and deal 2 damage to elvish warmaster, then second hit should kill warmaster and deal 4 damage to LVD, ending the game. Instead, LVD somehow survives. What happened?

Torbran's ability doesn't change how combat damage is assigned (as trample does); effects that would affect the damage a creature would deal, such as that of Torbran's ability, don't change the amount of combat damage creatures assign.

I was happy with Lookout over Visionary. Tried Freyalise for a while but it eventually got cut. Definitely a valuable sideboard option vs control though. Also added a Circle of Dreams Druid.

21.40 why doesn’t the Emissary with Embercleave benefit from Torbran and deal 5 dmg times two instead and trample over? Not a red source?

That's just how that interaction works, when assigning damage you can't take the extra from Torbran into account yet. Once the damage is dealt it won't Trample over, since it all goes to the creature. It's not very intuitive, but similar situations arise with First Strike creatures getting double blocked and not killing both blockers.

I have tried to make this deck for several days, its so nice when it works, but most of the time it loses horribly. either bruvac get killed or I cannot get combo in hand in time before opponent wins. You mentioned imperious perfect which I have seen in a lot of elf decks. What is the reasoning for choosing to cut them? Also, I saw one of your elven opponents using snow lands. Do you think faceless haven is worse than castle garenbrig for the deck? I would have thought haven is better, but I’m not an elf player.

Not a huge fan, since it clashes with Castle. Plenty of mana sinks already and control isn't very popular in best of one. Imperious Perfect is usually too slow to be relevant and there's no shortage of lords.

Don't get me wrong, I think elves is a really strong deck and Archdruid is a high priority target. But I think CoCo is the only "unfair" card in the deck really. That's the card that drops multiple lords on the board in response to removal like Stomp.
