I have to say I think U/R control may be slightly weaker than Grixis just because of Push. Black also gives you some really sweet sideboard options like Ob Nix. I really wanted to find a way to make a transformational sideboard into U/R Emerge, but then you can't tech against anything else because you need to side 4 Stitchwing Skaab/Advanced Stitchwing, 4 Deep-Fiend, 4 Cathartic, and then you only have 3 sideboard slots which I don't think is enough. Grixis also lets you run Radiant Flames instead of Sweltering Suns, albeit the Cycling on Suns is better game 1 vs control, but then you have Black for sideboard options your opponent doesn't expect.

This is exactly my style of deck. I'm all about getting hellbent as fast as possible and going as hard as I can! Burn, Goblins, any really fast Aggro deck is going to catch my attention.

Pulled all my card out this weekend, seeing there is no cat-combo, mainly for the upcoming game-day and been checking which decks i would be able to make with the shiz i already own (or require a minimum purchase) ... while doing so i ran into an interesting deck that i would love to see your take on, 'Budget Mono-black Zombies sorta Aristocrats' (maybe needs to be black/blue for some defense (?) ... anyways, it uses a fun 3 card combo, where one uses 'Stitchers graft' to sling in 4/4 or 5/5 'creatures/mostly zombie tokens' at the opponent to then sac. them at the end of turn to 'Voracious Null', gaining extra value from 'Gavony Unhallowed' ... This combo has been in standard for a while already, may have been under the radar due to a better zombie deck taking center stage. BUT this deck just got 3 common zombies at (1) and (2) mana, all with upside when they die (also see the 'Lilly Planeswalker deck') ... meaning we have more than enough fodder to do our tricks with, and standard is also littered with spells that generate zombie tokens (more than fit the deck), so you can literally pull zombie tokens from anywhere (under the floorboard, from the sand, and from the tides, heck even Gisa helps out) ... so, i got most of the pieces, but i never really build or played an 'aristocrats deck' so thought i would bring this deck to your attention as a budget zombie build. And hope to see a tech on it, so that i can put it together so it actually works :P ... Why am i not just play testing this, well mainly because i seem to have a deck i have more pieces for, and i am tuning 'it'.

Nice tech Dev! my first thought when you said you needed another one drop that discards was​ Bomat Courier. Seems like it could discard and draw even more than the neonate. Thoughts? Also, snek next please!

Neonate is awesome. Pairing menace with all the burn makes him pretty hard to block, and you dont have to pay for the discard. It turns fiery temper into a lightning bolt that draws a card, instead of lightning strike

went to the lgs, bought these cards, wrecked shop (for a budget deck). 3-1 lost to GB snake with a great opening hand both games. Neonate is an underrated allstar; menace is hard to deal with when youre burning blockers away. with a trial out, i went neonate into cartouche, attacked for 2, sacked him into a fiery temper, trial and shock next turn for game. the burn is real

I don't think it fits in this build but Bedlam Reveler is another card that might work if it was tweaked a little. Could cast pretty low eventually and we discard our hand and draw three. Could be a two of in the right build.

You gotta do Second Suns! Some ways to break it are Unsubstantiate and Failure to Comply to bounce it back to your hand and play it again for the win. Also a bit spicier way is using Compelling Argument the turn afterward to mill straight to it ( it goes seven cards down you draw a card for the next turn cast Compelling Argument removing five cards from your library it's now the top card of your library letting you get it with a cycler or Glimmer of Genius) and at worst you can just cycle Compelling Argument. The best thing about Felidar Guardian being gone for that deck is we can play Fumigate again!

I bought the deck and tested it with 15 games. I took out 5 mountains and have RELIABLY mana flooded every game! You only need to start your hand with 2, or even 1 if you draw into soul scar or flame blade. I replaced the 5 mountains w/ 3 thermo alchemist, 1 hazoret, and another copy of trial of zeal.

Been thinking a bit on a deck like this. It's not usually my jam but it seems like it'd be very fun. I think Hazoret definitely needs to be in it, and maybe even Bomat Courier instead of Neonate. This is a great, cheap deck though that I think will sneak out some wins for sure.

I made a Mardu aggro deck but it's mostly Rakdos. It uses Soul-Scar, Fatal Push, Scrapheap, Bone Picker, etc. to try to get 3 power guys out and kill off whatever my opponent has. It has late game resiliency in the form of the new zombie jackal and Scrapheap.

have you thought about adding 2-3 copies of throne of the god-Pharaoh? I've been testing it and it can add a lot of damage over the course of the game for 2 mana. also bomat courier and of course reckless bushwhacker 😁

I've been brewing a list that involves nest of scarabs, throne of the god pharoh, and Soul-Scar mage. I figure that dropping a sweltering suns on their boardstate, and getting a huge number of insects should be enough to swing the game in my favor. It also plays bone picker to take advantage of all the burn in the deck, and a playset of unlicensed to deal with some of the more pesky stuff in the format as well as some extra burn. Haven't tested it much though, don't really know how it will deal with some of the more control focused decks in my FNM meta.

Land (18) 18 Mountain Creature (14) 4 Flame Blade Adept 4 Soul Scar Mage 3 Furyblade Vampire 3 Bloodrage Brawler Other (28) 4 Cartouche Of Zeal 4 Consuming Fervor 4 Shock 4 Lightning Axe 4 Fiery Temper 2 Tormenting Voice 4 Cathartic Reunion 2 Trial Of Zeal Sticks to the same idea but instead of Neonate as the extra discard I used Furyblade. It allows you to discard a card (I know it has to be right before combat and not whenever) and becomes another attacking threat in the process. It adds to the aggressiveness of the deck. Looking to make a cheap fun FNM deck just to play and I've always loved playing RDW style decks.

I've been wrecking gb snakes with a 4 dollar(25 in paper) gb negative counters deck I brewed up on magic online. I can't imagine that deck surging long seeing as how winding constrictor doubles the negative counters you pout on their creature as well.

i know people keep saying monastery swiftspear as a comparison for soul-scar mage, i think Satyr Firedancer is more fitting, swiftspear is great but she went on to be great everywhere, while Satyr Firedancer remained in standard and was quite the force to be seen in a burn deck, same as i feel for this guy.

Are Cathartic Reunion and Tormenting Voice risky against counter-magic? It seems losing the discarded cards as part of the cost without drawing to replace them hurts, quite possibly a lot.

Very much. I think against those kind of decks, those cards are best at like Turn 2 (on the play) with an Adept on the board, or playing whenever the opponent taps out. Also I think Censor will be seeing alot of play, so they're best played when you can have an extra mana out. Otherwise it's very dangerous.

can someone explain how this deck works? you playing low mana cost cards, always discarding when most of cards have to be played, just so that you can cast madness cards cheaper and get some +1/+0 ... ? I bought the deck but cant get my head around the discard thing in this deck. Losing all games against Green Fatties $3.50 deck which i also bought :)
