I mean in comparison to other YuGiOh decks it doesn't have a lot, but the deck does have a toolbox for a reason, also it usually leeches lines off of other decks, I think Ive seen a total of one person play pure Invoked, Ive played it with Danger in some MD events. Basically Invoked isn't a whole cake, it is Icing you can slap on top of of other cakes, but isn't anymore because there is better Icing.

Some cards are literally impossible to judge in a vacuum, with some context (tho the context of the context matters as well right) you still need some card game acuity to judge properly but at least the context grounds you better to judge within that context, I would say from impossible to possible makes it considerably easier but I wouldn't say it's necessarily easy (ykwim?)

It really is the magical Christmas land of combo for a magic player, when I started playing again last year after stopping around pendulums I think I made people mad for not scooping up while they did big combo because “if I was doing this in magic and my opponent scooped before I could finish the combo I’d be sad” that has thoroughly been beaten out of me now although I do still have a soft spot for bad starting hands and try to let the opponent play a bit of the two player game before I kill them.

Bit of a long post here, but as someone who started yugioh with master duel's launch, I played invoked shaddoll dogmatika as my first real deck that wasn't a starter/structure deck and oh my god I love that deck to pieces. I think it really helped me understand the game well, both in evaluating cards, having combos that weren't complicated but still rewarded situational awareness, understanding synergies between archetypes and engines, it eased me into using link monsters like the Knightmares when I had extra material on board, it had a mix of strong interactions like Construct andDogmatika Punishment, negates from Mechaba, OTK pushes from Purgatrio and Fleurdelis, and yes, floodgating from Winda. As memed as it is, I literally dont think I would be a yugioh fan today if it wasn't for Normal Summon Aleister. I will never forget what that royal rare copy I crafted did for me.

He meant the card text was overly verbose when explaining a effect effect, which considering the fact hes coming from magic -(and the fact that its true and the TCG's psct sucks ass)- is understandable.
@TheAnthonyC4
@TheAnthonyC4 Жыл бұрын
@@CatManThreeoverly verbose implies that the cards have a bunch of fluff text that doesn’t matter in determining how the card functions. This is demonstrably untrue of Yugioh, as that “fluff” text indicates simultaneity vs sequentiality, mandatory vs optional, if vs when, the relevant locations and phases, the actions being undertaken, how many times the effect can be activated, costs vs conditions vs effects. These are all distinct functional differences that cannot be removed without fundamentally altering the effect.
@mawillix2018
@mawillix2018 Жыл бұрын
@@TheAnthonyC4 The problem is not that it has additional non-functional words. The problem is that the effect could have been written more concisely if it was not for the fact that most of it is spelled out to the greatest detail possible in simple natural english. There are multiple ways to reduce the amount of text on the cards, without losing the ability to distinguish what a card does: 1. We could make use of keywords, which would massively reduce the amount of card text needed. 2. We could define the meaning of certain words, and phrases. (Both the TCG and the OCG do this already.) 2.1 By utilising this method, we could distinguish two similar effects by changing the phrasing, instead of prepending, (or appending), an entire phrase. 2.2 Originally, I described prepending, and appending, but I've modified the phrasing of 3.1 before posting, to make it easier to parse. 3. If we were to describe the cards in a code that is more easy to parse, then it wouldn't be as verbose.
@TheAnthonyC4
@TheAnthonyC4 Жыл бұрын
@@mawillix2018 there are dozens of functionally distinct ways of indicating a search effect alone. Either we say that all of those variants should be given the same keyword (dramatically reducing the complexity that makes Yugioh so unique) or they are each given their own keyword (resulting in a barbaric mass of keywords that are very similar with extremely minor differences). Neither solution is ideal nor desirable. Yugioh is not magic, and it never will be magic. Magic cares much more deeply about breadth of its effects, whereas Yugioh concerns itself with the depth of its effects.

Loved it! As a yugioh player watching your series since the 1st episode, I was absolutely stunned with Tronisbad's understanding of the game. I loudly gasped when he got the Runick loop on his own since that's a loop that took a little longer for the general YGO community to fully grasp and make it work. I really like your new approach to this series, and you are definetly on the right track with those choices. For the next, I would like to suggest a very tricky one: Zoodiac, Unchained and Ogdoadic (showing Snake Rain). Those 3 archetypes have very "Magic The Gathering"-y energy on their gameplans, each with its own twist, and the "was tier 1" category is very muddy here because of how crazy some cards in those archetypes read. So it would make a very intersting thought process on which deck is which.

Both archetypes are still more or less self contained to the point where you can easily understand what they do, but they're also specifically designed to be the centerpiece of a tribal deck, which is a more common concept in Magic than Yugioh, and it could highlight the differences between how both games handle tribal decks

(Usually 3 monsters from deck) Armed Dragon Catapult Cannon: Ojamatch enables the Armed Dragon half, Assimilation enables VWXYZ. A-to-Z would be a monster but I just want to see if it's possible the guesser gets baited by an effect that essentially reads "You win the game" except that you have to play upwards of 11 bricks six of which are garnets and this "auto win" wombo combo only works going second so you have to play into your opponents board.

There's a Centiscorch deck in Pokemon that mills you. It occasionally works but it will mill you in like 3 turns. I would know. I got beat by this cuz my deck draws a million card per turn. So I got decked out in 2 attacks from the Centiscorch.

I vaguely remember GX having a lawyer as the villain of the week. A lawyer being a Yugioh player is no longer ridiculous.

I almost wish you could show them more than 5 cards from each archetype, as it paints an even better picture and lets your guests figure out the scope of how an archetype is.

I like this better than single cards. As you said, it gives them context and less 'gotcha'. Recommending six-samurai, dark-world, mermail/atlantean, evil eye. Evil eye feels broken until you realize removal is easier in yugioh than magic.

We all hate Runick dont worry. This deck by itself has basicly killed all combo decks with important 1ofs entirely because you would autolose jf they randomly banish it.

I would love for you to show them the Buster / Destruction Sword archetype. It looks pretty strong on paper but has never been a tier one deck afaik. The cards to show would be: 1. Buster Blader, the Destruction Swordmaster 2. Destruction Sword Memories 3. Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman 4. Prologue of the Destruction Swordsman 5. Buster Dragon Bonus Card: Dragon Buster Destruction Sword (to show a Destruction Sword monster that Buster Dragon mentioned)

Very cool spin on this series! Jst a suggestion to make sure the guest understands that youre only showing 5 cards of the archetype and that it is usually much larger, but what youre showing is the bare minimum core. Floo does seem underwhelming without the continuous spell for example without the context of why you would want to normal summon on your opp turn. Cheers!

Once Tier 1: Skystriker with Mobilize Engage, Raye, Kagari, Widow Anchor and Azalea Now Tier 1: Rescue-Ace with Hydrant, Turblence, ...

Honestly i think the difference between magic and yugioh text design is that yugioh tries to be very concise and leave little to no room for interpretation, meanwhile you need secret knowledge to explain why blood moon overrides urborg, tomb of yawgmoth instead of the other way.

For Ice Barrier instead of the Mirror should of shown him one of the recent Main Deck Monster like Revealer. That would of reduced the reactive aspect of the cards shown slightly. Also justice for the recent Ice Barrier Main Deck Monsters is needed as they took a deck that was basically unable to summon their own boss monsters into being able to consistently summon them. Still not all that strong of a deck, but it's picking itself up.
