I would say #6 would be playing 3 or more colours. It is tough to know when to add a third colour and how to draft the necessary support to avoid mana problems.

Good Point, i did it yesterday and after the first loss i rebuild my deck and just splashed the 3rd color, then it was strong.

That is a great point. Folks get fancy sometimes when they don't understand things well enough and it can really backfire.

I remember when I took my brother to his first prerelease for war of the spark and he learned lesson two the hard way. He said taking 6-8 damage from goblin assailant because he was on the draw, his first play was 4 mana and he missed a land drop. Now he usually has one of the lowest average mana curves in the whole pod. I'm glad he learned

#fixed #3 and #5 are areas I need to improve in. I think this comes from wanting to play more aggressively than I should. Thanks for all the tips!

#fixed Mistake 5 here is golden - something I can recognize from Chess, that strategic trading up instead of trading down (a series of these or sometimes even just one pivotal trade) can turn the tide of a game.

Great advice to help improve my drafting skills. Also I was wondering, could you make a video where you draft and build a deck. Sure hair you organize and give it a man's curve.

Thanks for the tip on rough number of 2 drops and which pick number to start fixing for colour. Those were helpful and new to me.

#fixed the subtle mistake of doing trade down, was something I was not fully aware of, thanks for the video, also locking in on colors too early, i see it is better to simply go for the best as the card quality will go down as the packs has less and less cards.

very good stuff. i may even watch this again. I made a lots of these mistakes today at a Dominaria Remastered draft party today. I'm new to the game since pandemic. I love arena standard and apparently alot of people i know play. I also have a Bi-Monthly Vintage cube group at one of my best friend's house. I get better and better as i get more familar with the cards. This is very helpful. ^_^

#fixed Not having (or drafting) removal cards. Also, using them too early. Same for trick cards. I used to play magic back in high school and recently got back into MTG due to being free digitally. I'm new to drafting so these videos are a big help! Thanks! :D

Thanks, #fixed. #2 resonates. Also grab removal early in draft.

Yes, but also don't overload on removal either. Otherwise you're just making a bunch of 1 for 1 trades and not adding your own creatures/threats to the board. I had a guy play 4 strangles and 2 Maestros Charms against me, but only played one creature throughout the game and lost because I had some incidental value liking making two creatures with one card, or creatures that draw me an extra card.

Why are draw cards not so valuable in draft ? I'm very casual in MTG, playing 1 SNC draft per week on average, so I don't understand the cards inside and out yet. But I've had good success with drafting 1 or 2 draw cards like Big Score and Demon's Due for that mid to late game.
@spencermiller2334

Draft matches are largely decided by board presence. Taking a turn to play card draw spells can sometimes allow your opponent an extra attack early. Having some card draw can help pull ahead or close out the game in later game scenarios. Unless you don't have any other plays don't play card draw on curve. If you have a three mana card draw and a three mana creature play the creature on turn three and use the draw spell when you are low on cards or have enough mana to double spell. Also creatures that draw cards are good even if they're below curve on stats.

what about mulligan, should i risk a 2 land hand or go down to 5, last game i had to mulligan every single game and it ended up losing me some game to attrition
@NicolaiBolas
@NicolaiBolas 4 ай бұрын
It depends on the hand, but I would say that general advice for mulligans is to look for reasons to keep a hand rather than reasons to mulligan. If it’s 2 lands and has both of your colors I often keep those hands.

@@NicolaiBolas when i have a strong play, playable with 2 land, i usually keep the hand, but it give me some free lose sometimes.

PLAY 17 LANDS
@NicolaiBolas

I didn't want to include that one because I'm assuming folks know what a draft is. At least for me every time I've heard someone explain draft to someone else they mention to play 17 lands.
