A careful watching and rewatching of this one is helping me to improve my Standard decks and to learn about strategy and coordinating my cards and mana base for dual decks that I had not begun to think of. That dragon deck is no joke. It would have an unfair advantage on it's opponents if it wasn't slow due to mana pull. Once you have enough mana to start putting those dragons on the battlefield, it's over for your opponents. Those dragons have phenomenal synergy with one another. It's a nightmare for the people you're playing. The Vampire deck is great too, a lot of token, equipment and counters that just build up. Felines are equipment heavy and have some sneaky mean tricks over your opponents, it's awesome. I would say the Wizard deck is the weakest of the four, I wouldn't recommend it.

Upgrade advice: Prairie Stream, Cinder Glade, Canopy Vista, Sunken Hollow, Smoldering Marsh. Great EDH lands that are about to rotate out of Standard and are all $2 or less right now. Krosan Verge works nicely with these as it can tutor for the first three, giving you access to four of your colors. They can also be tutored with Farseek and anything else that mentions a land type but doesn't say "basic"

i'm glad I'm not the only one who took notice of how unfortunate the mana base on the dragon deck is. It actually pushes me towards running Ramos out of the box, given his Super Uber Mana Rock status. They even put a slow fetch and Krosan Verge into the cat deck, which is a real head-scratcher. Heck, I would have even taken Alara Panoramas!

Had a few games with the decks, all unaltered. The dragon deck dominates every time. Yes the mana Base isn't the best, but the eminence ability counters all the slow mana that the deck comes with. In truth, I'm terrified to think how nuts the dragon deck will be with better mana fixing.

Trever Wiebenga Just as a suggestion, you might want to try buying a few key cards that will really help your lands in a budget Mana base. Prismatic Omen Chromatic Lantern Amulet of Vigor These three cards are great for decks that have budget Mana bases. Two of them fix your Mana perfectly, and the other turns those trilands into better duels.

You could probably upgrade the mana base for $20 and have it be plenty sufficient for your average game night. The dragons themselves are super powerful and people are claiming that the weaker mana base was meant to balance it's play against the other three precons.

Glacial Self I agree with Chrome, at this point, the Lantern is almost like sol ring or boots in that the card is an auto include (unless your mono colored). At around 10 to 15 dollars it's not devestating to the cards resale and it's a card that all players should be able to have access to because their is no substitute for it that is that effective and user friendly. Cavern I don't think so because the card is 50 dollars and Wizards can't do that without making the investor/collector side of the community (which I'd say makes them the most money even though wizards has continually said they are trying to gear product to new players) angry at them. It would be comparable to adding one or two Zendikar Fetches in the Dragons deck like the professor stated. Don't get me wrong though, I'd love a Cavern or two in my collection.

Lantern isn't an auto include in the same way that Sol Ring is. Sol Ring will almost always see play unless you're actively avoiding artifacts in the deck (say you're running mass artifact hate). The value of Lantern goes down the more you upgrade your mana base. It's still an awesome card, but there comes a point where your mana base is simply efficient enough that you don't really need it. This is mostly decks that don't want artifact ramp or ramp above CMC 3, which is common in decks with CMC 4 commanders that want to ramp into them by turn 2 or 3. I do agree that Lantern is probably tied for first place with Ingot if you want CMC 3 mana rocks (depending on how hard your meta hates on artifacts). Also, the investor/collector side of the community do not make Wizards the most money. That would be the players. Only reason stores open boxes is because players will want to buy singles. Reprinting an older expensive card would just mean that the players are unlikely to see much of the deck, since if the decks MSRP for less than the value of the card, there's no reason not to buy the deck purely for the one card. P.S. I do know investors buy sealed product and thus do make Wizards more money than they otherwise would, but while I don't have any numbers, I'd be very surprised if the sale to investors outstripped the sales to normal player in the form of single booster, drafts and stores opening packs to sell singles. I also know that enough stores require the secondary market to remain relatively stable to stay in business, which is why I reluctantly have to agree that disrupting it massively is a bad idea and shouldn't be done.

Yeah, as much as it pains me to admit it, wanting Magic to be affordable, the inclusion of CoS would be an unmitigated disaster for every other card in those precons, with prices rapidly approaching 0, as scalpers try to sell off the remaining 99 cards. Perhaps if they were to have created a new "Diet Caverns" card that tapped for a colorless with the uncounterable clause attached to it, like Boseiju? Or even "Creature spells of the chosen type can't be countered unless the caster pays an additional 3 generic mana" or something along those lines?

From the Shadows Emerges... simple : strongest of the 4 out of the box, most of the upgrades aren't expensive (aside from the mana base, still possible to upgrade on a budget). Cats and Vampires are very hard to upgrade creature-wise, because there isn't many good option (vampire doesn't seem bad, until you start searching for them, and you realise Olivia voldaren and the +2/+2 vampire lord are pretty much the only good things). finally, as stated, wizards are pretty much going everywhere, and you'd need to put quite a lot to refocus it

I would have to disagree with you on this one, Prof, the Dragon precon has proven itself a monster in my playgroup, against all of the other precons. I rarely stumbled with the mana base, as the mana ramp within the deck made up for it pretty well. Over all, I would say it is easily the strongest out of all of them.

I took issue with the lack of useful reprints in the set and overall reprint value. The new cards that are worth 5+ now are likely to drop sharply in time, while reprints are less likely.

Cards I feel that can help improve the mana problem in the dragons deck are Joiner Adept, Prismatic Omen, and Chromatic Lantern (makes your lands tap for any colour), then "cheat in" cards like Urza's Incubator, Elvish Piper, Belbe's Portal, and Quicksilver Amulet. I find most of the time with 5-colour that green and blue are focused more (card draw, land fetching, deck fixing), while creatures make the bulk of the remaining three colours.

As a new player who bought draconic domination, I wrecked house when it came to fighting all my friends. Maybe I just got lucky, but there are multiple artifacts that tap for mana aswell as lands that can tap for any mana based on charge counters, but I would say that it definelty isn’t a weak deck. I’ve pulled off the 6 6/6 tokens aswell as a doublestriking commander once if not twice in my first month of playing it, so as a consumer who’s relatively new to magic I would say the deck did a great job, and I love playing it; however, with all that said, I ended up purchasing the deck for $80 at my local game store, and the MSRP was only around $30? I would say I got ripped off if the cards didn’t add up just $12 over the original price. You are also playing for the experience aswell, and I would say as a person who crafted a casual dragon aggro deck that this deck filled any dreams I had about dragon combos in the future.

I agree with you on the dragon deck. I bought it, and in a 4-way commander duel, if you’re first draw does not give you the ramp you need, hope for a good first mulligan, or else you are stuck waiting out for 16 mana out of 84 other cards. Good cards, but what use is a board wipe with no mana to cast it.

After having the dragon deck for the past couple of weeks and playing it straight out of the box with no upgrades, I'd like to put my two cents in about the mana base. Could it be better? Absolutely. But is it bad? Not from my experience. I've played quite a few games with my friends and not once have I stumbled over mana or had difficulty getting out spells. I didn't even really consider upgrading it until I lost the Monastery Siege and randomly decided to add in an Evolving Wilds a couple of days ago. The deck works fine and is a blast to pilot. But, of course, that is only my experience.

I use a similar mana base in scion and have had next to 0 problems with. 9 times out of ten i can play scion on turn 5 with no issue. Now if you play your lands without planning ahead you WILL have issues but if you think befro dropping your lands on the field you should be fine. I do agree that chromatic lantern should be in. however i dont expect them to put city of brass and mana confluence in. i also feel the vivid lands are the first to be removed. however their mana bases for precons have always been rough in my opinion and hard to work with so im actually quite satisfied with this one.

some Pain Lands, some combination of Terramorphic/Evolving/Panoramas/Mirage Fetches, some amount of dual tapped lands, come on there are plenty of cheap and mid-range priced lands they could have included to spruce the 5 color mana up a bit, seems like lazy design for them to think that many basics in a 5 color deck would work out.

Looks 👀 at this video in 2021 and see’s how Coveted Draconic Domination is and how uber expensive it is compared to the other four..... and 🤔 called that value really off. But all 4 of these are awesome , vampires and Cats are htf and a bit pricey too with Wizards being the easiest to get at a decent price and didn’t quite blow up as the other 3 decks. still dig this channel and out the box gameplay you had a point.

My Scion of the Ur Dragon deck has a decent mana base. Although the entire deck itself cost close to(if not more than) $400. I have every shock and every fetch minus scalding tarn, my mana base is around 33 lands with the rest being the two Spirit Dragon lands, Cavern of souls and various lands that provide one mana of any color(or mana an opponent could produce, which benefits a 5 color deck). Prismatic Omen also helps a bunch. All that said, I've almost always have had the mana I've needed since owning every fetch allows me to curve my mana towards both accommodating what's in my hand and what my ultimate goal is(cast scion, trigger his ability twice, moltensteel dragon, pump, skithyryx, swing). I wouldn't recommend investing so much into a commander deck unless you have cash to burn or if you don't plan on buying many cards for at least a year.
