You mention you must have a way to win the game when you have Mindslaver Lock active. However, you don't need a win-condition, that is the win in itself. Every turn you are drawing the same exact card and your opponent draws a new card. This means that they will deck themselves and you will not. And as you are controlling their turn their is no way they can kill you. This is considered an infinite combo and a Judge will give you a win if called and you can show how you will repeat each time without your opponent being able to respond.
@TolarianCommunityCollege10 жыл бұрын
Matt Burica You are 100% right and I messed up my explanation of that. I meant that you needed to understand that a lock IS the ability to win. I've seen newer players (or folks borrowing a friend's deck) get called on it and not be able to explain it. Basically, I meant what you said. Everyone look over here! Here! (points at Matt). That. ;)

Hello to any people watching from 2017 and on! Well, first off, this deck got expensive. But still affordable and can be put together with a decent build at around $200-300 and for a "perfect" build (varying by meta) around $400-500. So here I will list a deck tech for the version which I have which is the more expensive one. 1 solemn simulacrum/ Thought-knot seer 1 wurmcoil engine 1 batterskull 2 mindslaver 1 platinum angel 1 sundering titan 1 ugin, the spirit dragon 2 treasure mage 1 snapcaster mage 2 chalice of the void 1 oblivion stone 4 expedition map 4 thirst for knowledge 1 epiphany at the drownyard 4 remand 4 condescend 3 repeal 1 spell burst 1 cyclonic rift 1 academy ruins 1 oboro, palace in the clouds 1 ghost quarter 1 tectonic edge 8 island 4 Urza's mine 4 Urza's tower 4 Urza's power plant And for the sideboard 2 hurkyl's recall 1 wurmcoil engine 1 negate 2 chalice of the void 1 filigree familiar 2 spreading seas 2 relic of progenitus 2 spatial contortion 2 dismember That's about it. Please comment suggestions or comments if you want. Always open to them. Thanks, and have a great day

I am so happy you posted this. I was going to do a video request from you for this deck and you beat me to it! I am new to Modern and I have been testing this deck out on Cockatrice with decent success against T1 decks. The pilot of a deck has a lot to do with it of course but I am still happy to see this have some steam against them unlike some T2 decks which sit comfortably there. I also tested 8rack (which I later saw your video on and enjoyed btw) and I had a lot of fun testing online with that but I became somewhat bored of it. Aside from learning the best things to Thoughtseize or IoK the deck sort of plays the same against most other decks and is rather linear in that sense. Mono U Tron feels like it has many intricacies that can give you an advantage once you learn them and make you a much stronger force with the deck. Game to game it is a completely different experience. That is just my opinion though, thanks for the great videos!

A suggestion I have to new tron players are to keep in mind the meta that is within your area. For example I face a heavier aggro format in my locals, so I run thought-knot seers to ensure I keep them from swarming with things like pack rat. I also recommend dropping a talisman to 2 (either progress or dominance works in this regard) and instead go with another academy ruins if you run into a lot of landhate. And as the good professor stated this is only a template so experiment with friends or on forums and keep on testing, the beauty of this deck is its versatility. (Or just throw in an ulamog or 2 for funsies)

Professor,this is a very analytical and well presented template! Congratulations on your truly wonderful creation with the really funny introduction! However, watching this video did made me feel compelled to humbly ask you if you could please in the near on more distant future present a blue-white control modern deck. I know that in general control decks are not as successful and widely appearing in modern, but in my humble opinion I believe that magic players should not abandon or dismiss control that easily. Aggro and generally fast or combo decks have made a very strong impact on the format, such as mono red aggro or affinity and splinter twin respectively and now the modern version of abzan has made its appearance, but in the recent years there are few to no true control decks in the first positions of grand prix tournaments.

You don't need to have a win con on the field when you get the mind slaver lock going- you just wind up not doing anything on their turn, and not doing anything on yours except for recurring mindslaver, and you mill them to death. Mind laver goes to the top of your library each turn, so you don't actually draw, in the sense that your library size isn't changing.
@Gavolak9 жыл бұрын
I run a modified version, without thirst for knowledge, talisman, or spell rust. I run 4 serum visions, 3 Ugins, 2 Kozileks, an Eye of Ugin, and 3 ELDRAZI conscription. I side in Ostone and hurkyls against mirror or affinity. Oh and I don't run Ostone main deck.

Academy Ruins is now $20, Oblivion Stone $14, Antiquities Urza (black border) lands are $6, Oboro, Palace in the Clouds $20, even Maps are up to $3-$4. Updated competitive builds run Ugin, the Spirit Dragon at $30-$40; Engineered Explosives $50+; and at least 2x Chalice of the Void at $75+ each. Without critical meta updates like these, your deck will get stomped at most stores, but this basic list can still work. If you are interested in the best updated Mono U Tron list, check out Pierakor on youtube.
@TyrisAscendant8 жыл бұрын
For people who are interested in the deck these days the lists have shifted a little with the meta and the printings of new cards. Unfortunately the deck is no longer that budget costing closer to $300-400 for a good version. Spatial Contortion is extremely good in this deck against the decks worst match ups (small creature match ups) like elves, goblins, affinity and merfolk. The merfolk match up is still awful though. Chalice of the Void is also extremely effective against many of the decks in the format and should be run instead of the ramp, this will require you to go up on lands to 24-25 though. Thought Knot Seer is better than Solemn Simulacrum in almost all situations and you can run a package Eye of Ugin to tutor your fatties along with the new Kozilek and/or Ulamog. Ugin is an absolute house in the deck and should be included for his ability to reset the board, although he can't be tutored. Other cards worthy of consideration for the deck are Fabricate, Silent Arbiter and Batterskull. Sideboard cards will depend on the meta but I suggest people look at Hurkyl's Recall, Negate, Pithing Needle, Aetherize, Relic of Progenitus, Torpor Orb, Dismember, Jesters Cap, Spellskite and Ratchet Bomb to name a few candidates.
@Zilimania10 жыл бұрын
While this decklist is not the optimal decklist for monoblue tron it's servicable for a starting point. However if you're a new player getting into modern I would not recommend this deck for 2 reasons: 1) this deck requires a very good knowledge of the field (as with any control/tempo deck) and a very good knowledge of your own deck. It will take a long time and a lot of work to be able to play this well competitively. 2) Almost no cards carry over to other decks (other than remands) so make sure this is the deck you want to be playing for the forseeable future if you're going to invest in it.

You can still win if you don't have a win condition and you've locked your opponent. Simply make him draw his entire library and tap all of his lands before passing to your turn, so you make sure he isn't going to respond. Since mindslaver will always be on the top of your deck, there's no risk of drawing the entire library before he does. Also, don't forget to see his sideboard while controling his turn.

Great vid, as always! Will we see any standard/legacy deck techs?

John Smith Yes to both. For standard, I am waiting until the next set hits, for Legacy...I'm planning something a bit different that I can hopefully get together. Fingers crossed.

Tolarian Community College Good luck! Somehow finding a real budget competitive Legacy deck must be a crazy task, because so far I think the lowest price point of a deck can only be in the $500 - $1000 at least that's what I think. I have seen videos of recent tournaments of Legacy and their decks are quite a lot running around $3k - $5k+.

Where can I buy this deck? I have always loved it but have yet to get my hands on one.

Would scuttling doom engine be a reasonable replacement for the Wurmcoil engines to cut costs even more?

I love control, thank you!

Calling gr tron the big nrother of the blue version is legit, but calling it stricly superior would be a big mistake ! At the moment, the monoblue version would be my version of choice for any big tournament, because of it's way better matchup against fast combodeck like twin and storm.
