@SteveMichael6 жыл бұрын
@@wearealreadydeadfam8214 I am by no means a great deck builder, but I have played mill competitively for a while now and while Tide did work well for him, I wonder about the consistency with the limited ability to scry. Thing in the ice didn't work out for me, but neither has Jaces phantasm that well either. It sounds great to have a 5/5 flyer on turn two, but in practice it hasn't worked out the best. A card that can be good, but conflicts with Visions of Beyond is Ensnaring Bridge. I have had some luck with running a lower mana curve mill deck and main decking 3 bridges. If your opponent doesn't have an answer it can buy you a few turns to mill them out. I didn't try to build a budget mill deck though. Again, I am not saying Tide is a bad card, or that Thing is a bad card. They just haven't worked out for me as well as it did for Magic Aids in the video.

So this deck got me thinking. What about a mono-blue or blue based control deck built around archive trap specifically as the sole wincon? 4 of trap, 4 of literal actual baby jace, and 4 of mission briefing. You need to cast 4 traps max to win. Fill the rest of the deck with counters, some draw/filtering/cantrips and interaction like Devastation Tide. A problem that mill has is that a lot of it's cards 'do nothing'. Yeah, they advance towards the deck's win con, but it doesn't actually affect the board state. So minimize the deckbuilding cost of the wincon with cards that can be either a wincon or interaction. Sometimes both. I think this idea might have some legs.
@ahunter75636 жыл бұрын

well, maybe, if you have like blue black, and you have like a removal package, counter package, cantrip package, and then the archive traps, but what immediately comes to mind is this; is there any way to repeatedly clear the board? I'm thinking like isochron scepter on damnation kinda. something that can sweep whenever you need it to, and then you only have to worry about countering big stuff. then you can let the lil dorks come down and just eventually mass sweep them away when it's most convenient

This was awesome to watch. I've been playing variations of this deck for about 10 years. It started as a Sanity Grinding standard deck back in Lorwyn era, and has evolved and taken different forms a bunch of times over the years, the three main versions being: 1 - Almost exactly this, though this was pre-Mission Briefing, so I was using Snapcaster and or more counters like Remand and Mana Leak, and Twincast to copy the Sanity Grinding (kinda like a Mission Briefing without having to pay again a lot of the time, though I like the new synergies with Devastation Tide). 2 - The U/B version with Glimpse, Mind Funeral, Surgical, 8 Fetches for Crab, etc. 3 - A hybrid between this and the Mono U infinite turns deck you played against where Sanity Grind was the win (this one was my own brew years before either came to prominence). It's interesting to finally see these decks (and my other one, Heartless Myr) finally being legitimized a bit more, because I've been on this jank for so long and I love it dearly. Also, beautiful deck boxes, hopefully I win one. :)

That could work; it's a may search so maybe the opponent would only search the first time to get trapped by archive trap, but then after that it might be hard to rely on if you're hoping to mill them out via Path. On the other hand you it does effectively turn into swords to plowshares as far as mill is concerned.
