One time a player I began play against , I play Yu-Gi-Oh!, I had defeated one of his monsters and he then got his bottle of Mountain Dew and spilled it all over my cards! Thankfully my cards were all sleeved! The store banned him from playing ever at that store again! His mother , despite the player being 26, walked him into the store and forced him to buy me a a new pack of card sleeves.

In hearing your response to the question about unpleasant FNM players, I realized that I'm really not trying to but I'm very uptight and monotone in games due to focus or having a bad day often. I feel bad bringing netdecks to FNM and not just competitive events alone. Thank you for making me realize it better, I want to try and have more fun at FNMs from now on :)

I remember commenting on one of your earlier videos back when you had around 2k subscribers, and in the comment I said that I think you'll be the next big magic channel with the quality content you're putting out. Over a year and 78k subscribers lately and not surprisingly my prediction was right. Hard work pays off and you deserve all 80k subscribers. Keep up the good work!

Professor, on the first question about finding the right deck, I like to use the website untap.in in addition to proxying. It's a free testing site and it has allowed me to test a lot of different decks against the meta. My friends don't exactly represent the modern metagame very accurately, so this was very useful to me and I think anyone trying to find the right deck should try it out.

As a relatively new fan ( 2 months or so ) I would like to say thank you for the channel. it's an instant favorite of mine. (really like the sense of humor) I also really enjoy the fact you address the social issues of magic ( grumpy players). You promote a healthy play environment which is key to keeping players and getting new ones to join the college. Also if you are ever in the phoenix area you and your wife plus miles are welcome to come to our weekly pauper cube night. It's a family style pot luck event where players bring the family and just have a good old time with friends and food. Keep up the good work!

Professor, thought you might be interested in knowing that in the Dragons of Tarkir timeline, Dromoka's dragons protect Arashin, a city where followers of Dromoka can live out their lives in peace without worry of the world beyond Arashin's walls. So there's at least one place you can go to just live out your life.

Going by the timeline on the MTG Wiki, the events of Time Spiral happened around 60 years before the events of Dragons of Tarkir. So technically we could see Teferi return as an old man. Maybe as a mentor to a newer character?

Professor, I like buying repacks. I know I'm getting bulk cards and I can't sell them. I'm more than OK with that, though. My friends and I use them for cheap drafts. We ask sellers for cards from just one set, preferably a Core Set. The cards are worthless, but still give good drafting experience. We sometimes have to re-repack them and remove cards that could get broken, but for drafts, repacks work really well.

As someone who hasn't bought or opened a booster since 2001 and that lost all of his cards, I find the 1000 card lots easy. The value may not be the best, but having cards to play with is better than not having cards at all. I started a cube with all of these cards, I haven't been able to play with anyone else yet, because I don't have a LGS anywhere close to me and my friends that play don't live next to me anymore. I've always liked trying to make something good from the random cards I had and tweaking my deck through playtesting more than making a killer deck and winning most of the time. I have noticed fake cards in the lots before, but they don't bother me since I don't play in tournaments or anything. The spread of sets were good too, but that does mess with synergy. I wouldn't pay more than $20 for 1000 cards though.

Very awesome video professor it's interesting to learn all this about you. I actually with most the MTG stuff you talked about expect personally think the eldrazi are "okkkk" in terms of idea. I feel like they are just too big in what they do I mean if they only had like no high than annihilator 2 and weren't darksteel colossus without trample on top of that they'd be a lot more for though I will say their drone are all pretty cool in making a bunch lil spawnlings for mana ramp.

Hmm, mono red, that makes sense to start with considering red generally is easy to play and has a lot of power, but, I hate red and black. My deck is mono white and does pretty well, but I started out after doing research and knew what I wanted to do with my deck, so it was easy to build mono white for me. I have played a blue-red deck that was pretty good, sadly it got lost in my room.

5:25 This one really hits me. I have this particular player at my Commander league that always rants on combo deck and even more on lock decks like Derevi or Memnarch (I play this last one) and its very anoying because he makes you feel that winning is wrong, or that the way you are doing it is wrong. He even says "Oh no, here comes X" when he face someone he knows can beat him this way, and he does it out loud so the other players at the table are "warned". I agree that Magic is for having fun, and also, sometimes we tilt and frustrate because of what happens during the game, but we have to be mature enough to understand some things. First, that combos, counters, control, all this is part of the game, promoted by its creators, and we even have a color for that. If it would be bad to play that way, blue wouldn't even exist. Second, that there is a difference in what the game is and what we are, so if someone likes to play combo or control, it's not because she or he wants you to have a bad time, but because it is her or his way of having fun in this game. Lastly, that is not healthy for the game and the community if you are tilting and getting everyone infected with your bad mood. We must face reallity and be good loosers and good winners.

I'd really like to see Glissa return. She really got the short end of the stick and sacrificed so much all to be sealed away in the core of Mirrodin at the mercy of the phyrexian corruption and labeled a traitor to her people. In a perfect world, Glissa survives the spellbomb on mirrodin, finds a way to break free of phyrexian control, ignites a new spark, becomes the first phyrexian planeswalker and seeks brutal vengence against her former phyrexian masters.

I totally agree on the whole drop one card and i win thing. Im also against decks that can win very early game, dredge as an example. I dont want to sit there as my opponent just goes though the motions to win the game while i sit there twiddling my thumbs. Granted if your actually in a tournament setting where big prizes are on the line decks that can win early are great. but if your in a casual setting like FNM then not so much.

Tolarian Community College I agree 100% with you on the annihilator cards, the I-win cards. In my kitchen-table playgroup, the group I play with most, we all dislike those. We've had a few decks come by that have certain combo's or such annoying cards that when they're on the field, in 90% of the cases it results in a win. Result now is that those decks are called the "F you decks" and are either collecting dust or are deconstructed because it was simply no fun to play with! When we play EDH we even have a set of rules for deck building, it is not allowed to get 2-card I-win combo's, no 'unfun' cards (such as Iona Shield of Emeria). Basically we don't just want a game that might've been going on for 40 minutes to just end in seconds if a player happens to draw/tutor his I-win card.

I love to play mono black in edh,but put in cards like jesters cap,all is dust, brittle effigy,ect.....only used to take out Iona when some creep tries to hose me,lol. I also use Chainer,Dementia Master as my general. So many people miss the "a graveyard" and automatically assume "your graveyard" Had a game once with a troll that dropped Iona and was playing mono white and named black when casting. My response....all is dust,re-animated her on my side with Chainer and named white. I don't normally play like that, but in that situation.....priceless ;)

David Grom Well that's the thing, when you get that combo off or some huge I-win card it's fun, can be priceless even. But after one or two times it gets old really fast. Or at least that's my experience with those type of cards.

Completely agree on Planeswalkers. I don't mind them in the lore (although there should be less of them) but the cards don't do it for me. To me it would be better if they were used more sparingly in storylines (instead of the Justice League of Planeswalkers they seem to be setting up for Zendikar) and have them more in a supporting role, aiding mortals in defense of their planes or in their quests.

PS: A good solution to those big eldrazi is to have flyers...deathtouch, bury cards... there is actually a lot to take them out. You're talking about Emrakul. That's one card, even the other two Titans don't have nearly as power mechanics, they die on me all the time! ...and you know what? I I burn myself trying to cast something so big and it does without hitting the opponent it sure does sting, I cant do ANYTHING else, I'm all tapped out for that one "win card" and subsequently lost the game. ....pfft, "win card". Might as well say no X damage spells no matter what, limit it to lightning bolt 3 damage and that's it.

The ONLY mechanic that i liked about eldrazi was the ability to shuffle your entire graveyard into your library that the legendary eldrazi had when they entered your grave. i would love it if they brought this back even if it was only one card. it would be cool if it was just a mana rock that did it. like manalith with that a ability would be awesome. you could aslo give it the ability to tap for 2 mana if the spell is colorless. howevor any of the anhilator or when you cast this rediculous thing happens type abilites i think should stay out.

As much as I think that the Eldrazi shouldn't be super over powered and 'I win' cars, I think they should still be a big board impact and represent their threat to entire planes. Maybe they should function more like planeswalkers or plane cards from planechase, where they switch up the board and turn it on its head a little, but not exactly like them.

One thing i find weird is that you recommend mono red for beginnners in every format and then say "It's supposed to be chess not punch out" i mean all red does is play cheap things tap them to attacks and when they cant hit you anymore with creatures they just burn you out. Red deck wins is hated by pretty much everyone at my lgs becouse there is almost no interaction either you die in 5 turns or you manage to stabilize and win
