I hadn't played Magic in 5 years, then a friend recommended a video on your channel and it helped me rediscover the joy of the game. I don't think I'll be playing tournaments again but I did make two pauper decks and I've been enjoyng myself playing casually with friends who are relatively new to the game. Your channel helped, just thought you'd like to know, thanks Professor. On a side note, boy did the value of old cards go up, I'm almost afraid to shuffle some of them.

I am a big pauper brewer (and as of now featured in the featured decks on mtgvault twice as bloodymary with "one land spy" (a reworked version) and "death is my engine" (one of my original brews) I agree with most of your choices. I just want to say that I myself would have put Thraben Inspector in the top five as well probably as second or first. It's a 1/2 for 1 mana that comes in with a clue token. Not only will this make mono white metalcraft and cyborgs more viable but I think it might have a place in Kuldotha Boros Also as honourable mentions: I adore both Insolent Neonate (since it is a hard to block 1 drop and can fuel madness) and Alms of the Vein I am a big madness fan and already ran multiple madness decks from golgari to simic, mono green and mono black I am now testing a rakdos brew with all these great new additions (and Murderous Compulsion the one you already mentioned)

SO darn happy Sanitarium Skeleton was number one! This little skeleton one me my pre-release 3-0! So much value from a 1/2 for B, especially when the set revolves around discard and mill. Pay B2 to put it from my grave to my hand? Who can say no? I know what creature is going in almost all of my fast paced and/or pauper deck!

Yay, sanitarium skeleton was my favorite common from the set. I love the skeleton creature type in its own right, but this little guy may find himself a very nice home in my Liliana EDH. I gotta test him to be certain he'll work, but I'm 90% sure he'll work quite well in there.

My LGS just had our first official Paper Pauper event. We managed to get to 9 players and that was knowing that several people couldn't make it this week due to other commitments. It looks like our wednesday Pauper community is going to be larger then some FNMs.

Sanitarium Skeleton is a great card in standard too. Put out a few Zulaport cutthroats and something that you can sack it too (like a nantuko husk or Indulgent Aristocrat).

I play lots of Pauper and I play Rmbc, i like you found trouble with the Anglers, as the Edicts are the best answer but only a stable board, it dodges my Grasp, Victum, Doom blade, Decay, Disregard. 2 good answers out of the board I've used are the massively underplayed Death Rattle (basically murderous cut) and Soul reap which at sorcery is actually better post board with Dispels being brought in

i managed to start kind-of pauper community in my LGS! Why kind of? well, we play pauper with standard rotation. It's cool anyway, for a few $$$ we have every single card we need and we can make all deck we want. Currently only like 6 ppl are playing this standard pauper, but hey! we haven't had pauper community before in my LGS, so it's great anyway.

wizards needs to do 2 things with pauper: 1. make it sanctioned 2. feature it at either a grand prix or better yet pro tour(I realize this is unlikely) as the main event that way you can have people actually see the format. because, most people don't want to play pauper. they think it's under powered. if they actually saw it played they would realize it's actually pretty powerful and a very healthy format, practically anything is playable

It's super odd going back to this video, because the Prof missed probably the highest point breakout common of SOI as far as Pauper - Thraben Inspector. One-drop Investigate is such a utility in a format that not only has decks that care about the artifact, but also a decent number of white and white/secondary color decks that benefit from an early drop with additional draw. It's certainly one of the better Kuldotha Jeskai cards.

I wonder if the list has changed at all after SOI has been out for about a year. I'd put Thraben Inspector and Insolent Neonate somewhere near the top. Never given much thought to Sanitarium Skeleton maybe because recursion/reaninmate isn't a typical play style of mine.

I think I'll use Skeleton as a sideboard card against UB Teachings. "Oh you kill my Skeleton? Don't worry, it will be back next turn." "Oh, you want to counter it? No problem, I pay 4 mana and it is back." And as far as I know UB has no exile effects (besides oubliette, which is not played in that deck).

QUESTION:Just wondering what would generate the best possibility of drawing better cards for SHADOWS OVER INNISTRAD? Buying a booster box, or buying 5 or 6 Pre-Release Kits? (I do not mind the extra dice - I can use 'em for other games). I can get pre-release kits for $30 each (cash/ no tax), and the cheapest I can get a booster box is $135 - taxes inc. (if I pre-order before April 6/7, 2016). All prices in CDN.Please let me know - all opinions are most welcome!

If you've got a particular deck in mind I'd say just straight up buy the singles. Otherwise, I tend to find pre-release kits cost more per number of boosters than a booster box. Though they do come with the foil promo so it could be worth it from that point of view.
