The fact that literally everyone ive seen spoil cards and play cards from this set doesnt realize that its a hippogriff with a herons head astounds me. There are several cards in the set that reference hippogriffs and the angel that all the humans now look to is Sigarda who literally wields a staff with a heron on it. As do several other human creatures. As for the boros legend he is the guy on the card Open the Armory

Rem is even co-protagonist in one of the official Magic stories for Midnight hunt. In case people didn't know, the Magic website posts two series of stories, one about the main story arc, and several on-offs about individual characters. They are usually a good read and provide a lot more insight into the lore than just card flavor texts.

There was essentially no reason for Phil not to cast Wound Reflection after Dockside. It hammers Seth's life total and then it's the 2nd spell for night to turn to day which flips his commander on Crim's turn and lets Abrade finish it off. That means Seth's creatures don't transform for free and transform on his upkeep.

With two+ replacement effects, it would be the choice of the card's owner of which to apply first. Also, Revel shouldn't be triggering 2x @ 1:22:55, since Voidwalker makes it so nothing opponents control can die.

So I think Tovolar without the draw trigger is a better commander, if not a better card. He gets targeted less, which means you get the transform benefit much more often, which is why you should want him. Maybe instead of the draw triggers he could have something like a free duskwatch recruiter trigger for wolves/werewolves on ETB and on attacking to show his call to the hunt by howling or something, and have that on both sides. Then he would be killed less, but still help bring out more wolves to his pack.

I think the bird head on Rem is a heron, it's definitely not a goose. I think Unnatural Growth is a good card in any G beatdown deck, where it offers a buff that scales with the game. I'm planning to slip it into Multani MS, because a 50/50 is bigger than a 25/25. The deck has a variety of other huge creatures and huge creature pay offs, so it's an amazing card there. Still, it's 100% win more, requiring a big board to matter at all.

...So Seth really *is* the new Tomer? Cannot believe Crim managed that steal. In regards to losing your Commander, it can be a fun exercise to build around an openly weak Commander, one you cannot rely on for much, so you really have to think carefully about what fits in the deck. It makes the deck feel really different each game, since you're super dependent on what you draw. I built some Legends commanders for this reason, including a 4/4 vanilla Commander.

I think Tovolar's power level is fine, but I wish they could have made him as powerful as he is in a way that feels more distinct to werewolves. Rather than the card draw clause, I think it would've been more fitting to have "If a triggered ability of another wolf or werewolf you control would trigger during combat, that ability triggers an additional time." Tovolar's other abilities would stay the same. Something like that might have worked well, and seemed less generic.

@@doktorwyvern2883 I looked through the gruul wolves and werewolves on scryfall, and triggers during combat seemed like one of the biggest commonalities. Not all of them had those abilities, but a lot of them had relatively good ones. That seemed like the biggest theme, aside from transforming. Perhaps it could just be all triggers for those creatures, and it would be fine; I was more just trying to think of alternatives that would still make werewolves powerful, but in a more unique way. Stapling card draw onto a tribal commander is fine, I suppose, but I think WOTC could've been more creative and made something more interesting.

I agree with your point to an extent. "Just give them a Toski" is not the most creative option, but outside of the "Night" trigger, it does help with a major weakness of the deck in that the tribe is that bad, it is hard to recover in a meaningful way after a wrath, or if most of your board gets answered. Sure there are other ways to go about this, but WOTC just needed to slam dunk it, and went the no nonsense approach. I think the double combat trigger ability is too narrow for it to be good. They literally released a generic Gruul commander that does the same thing, but making the ability specific to the tribe isn't making them much more effective or fun to play. I like drawing cards as much as the next player, sure, but it would have been cooler if they came up with a more interesting boost for werewolves. Will the paint by numbers design of Tovolar stop me from playing a brew of the deck? Definitely not.

Very much a joke. He still streams on this very channel twice a week, produces even more written and video content for your enjoyment, and was able to provide puns and Worldfires to players for this episode. I believe what you were calling a goose is a hippogriff, think Harry Potter's Horse-Eagle, except on Innistrad hippogriffs have the head of a heron (sort of like a crane) rather than an eagle. Herons symbology is tied up with humans and angels on Innistrad, think Sigarda, Host of Herons.
