I thought this was going to be trash, but it's a kinda cool package to get your friends that dont play into magic. It would have been neat to maybe throw in some custom planeswalkers for each color.
@DragonmasterSK5 жыл бұрын
Totally Agree with you. They should have all the members of the gatewatch one for each color so people would get to play with them. I'm all for Green, I love strong fierce creatures, I also like Re for its aggression.

@@DragonmasterSK They could've at least added a promo version of Ajani and Nicol Bolas, especially since they're on the cover of the freaking box. You'd think Wizards would realize that people will be expecting these characters to be in one of these decks.

I would be up for swapping some stuff round. Got myself some starter packs recently. Got given four boxes Built a basic Blue & White deck Shuffling some blue enchantments players getting eight each. Got a Red & Black basic Agro deck A few greens an all Used to play a lot back in the day and I've not played since about 96. Well up for getting a game night box I want to have a crack at collecting a few boosters and building a deck with 3- six random packs Can be bothered to spend much more than that. Just want to have a laugh with folks . For just over £30 this looks a great way to get playing. Green looks pretty coo in this set l got a few cards that I would swap out. With what I got in my starters . Loving the Black's as well in this. Wish I still had Lord of the pit he would be chowing down on all those zombies. (Not sure if he's a "legal" card anymore.) Picked up a Nightmare horse reissue on Saturday great seeing that card again.

Its actually a very nice way to get people into playing. They give 5 decks and whats need for a game at a cheap price. It helps getting friends and others into the game. The only thing is why are they started this now. Wouldnt you think they would have done this sooner or even advertise this out.
@MTGUnpacked6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, seems like the kind of thing they should’ve done years ago. Then again, maybe they did? It seems poorly advertised too. Nothing about it at my LGS, and I haven’t seen it around locally yet.

Never played MTG, looking to get started with wife and three kids so this seems very practical... Question is: moving forward if we decide to build our own decks like normal, will any of these cards be useable/good?
@MTGUnpacked5 жыл бұрын
Yes, depending on what format you want to play. If it's at the kitchen table or Commander, you could use any of the cards in your own decks. If you want to play Standard format (which currently rotates once per year), the cards have to be from the following sets to be able to use them: Ixalan, Rivals of Ixalan, Dominaria, Core Set 2019, Guilds of Ravnica, or Ravnica Allegiance. Whether they're good or not depends on what you want your deck to do!
@joshlee11325 жыл бұрын
@@MTGUnpacked thanks, I assume most official MTG gaming is standard format... I think this set will be a great start though
@MTGUnpacked5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Standard is what sells packs. Modern and Commander are huge constructed formats also, with Commander quite possibly being the most popular format outside of Standard. There's also Pauper, Vintage, Legacy, and no doubt other even smaller formats. There's also sealed / limited, in the form of prerelease and draft events.

shara in the box I am new like you, but what I do is find a good deck list online that people use and buy the singles in the deck. If the deck is newer, you may already have some of the cards.
@elio11456 жыл бұрын
Opening packs is a lot of fun but if you don’t have a lot of money buying packs may not be good. Buying singles to get the cards you need is cheap. My LGS let me buy 10 cards I needed for 1 dollar when it may have taken me a few $4 packs to get those cards
@sociopathrat75996 жыл бұрын
@@elio1145 there's a big problem with buying singles... it costs a lot to ship in my country , sometimes shipping a single card costs over 17 $ so ordering a full deck will be a problem ... unless they will somehow manage to pack them together and send as a single package
@elio11456 жыл бұрын
shara in the box that makes sense. Do you have an LGS near you?
@MTGUnpacked6 жыл бұрын
Before the recent Standard rotation I recommended the Challenger decks. Those gave a taste of the major archetypes and were actually decent decks, giving a nice starting point for building something even more competitive. Normally I’d suggest researching cards using scryfall or checking out the deck lists on MTGGoldfish.com, then buying the singles you need from a local game store to avoid shipping costs. Cracking packs is a very expensive alternative that most likely will take a long time to get you what you need, even if it is fun.

Indeed it would ! Did you know that Merfolk were in the game from the get go in Alpha. "Merfolk is the characteristic race for the color blue" in WoTC's own words. They turned up in green only recently in Ixalan, and there were even white merfolk in Shadowmoor. I only learnt this all myself recently and didnt even know of the white fish and that they were around since magic's conception. And thats coming from someone that plays a little bit of merfolk from time to time in modern. Hmm red merfolk, now theres a thought :P :-)

In what way did they fail? Do you believe everyone already knows about Magic and they should just buy Commander decks, or there’s no actual market for a product such as this? It’s an interesting experiment, anyway. I’m curious to see how it works out.
@mbargo31236 жыл бұрын
There are a few new “board game” style products magic has come out with recently. I understand this is not a board game, on the other hand the approach seems too oversimplified. I say failed because these extra products are all over second hand markets. The included instruction booklet looked in detail, however this product seem intimidating with having to read the instructions, thinking “I’m never going to remember all of these cards”, and a few other things I don’t want new players watching this video to think negatively because my comment. I prefer table top magic (building decks out of your card library to battle your buddies) and I think that game night is trying to bring this style of magic to the market in a way that is “out of the box”. *New players* I am stuck in my ways. Please don’t allow my comment to shew you away. Magic the Gathering is awesome.
@MTGUnpacked6 жыл бұрын
I agree on most of these board game style products. There were some that came out last year that clearly didn’t do well and strayed too far from what Magic is all about. The thing I like about this is that it gives you the feel of real Multiplayer Magic without having to hunt down various products or build decks, and it’s competitively priced. It’s much closer to the type of product I wish they would stick to rather than straying too far from what makes Magic great.
@mbargo31236 жыл бұрын
I like your take on the product.
@joecoo46156 жыл бұрын
@@mbargo3123 Building is great fun but if you put in place a rule that means players have to construct decks I think it could be cool. Maybe along side this deck perhaps purchase a couple of boosters and you have to piece together something. I'm sure you could have some fun sussing out mixing decks Just with what's in here. How about randomly selecting creatures Then you shuffle in enchantments , sorcery , & instants. Maybe I'm missing the point of what this products is. For me half the fun is building. If the deck wins that's bonus but its not the be all end all. This is product is a great way of getting into the game looking forward to picking one up. Its been donkeys years since I played. Just wanting to get back into it without paying a boat load of sheckles.
