Thanks for the intro / setup help, I had that same issue with the antenna so I'm going to open up the unit and tighten it the way you explained. I'm going to go back and watch your old dcs videos as I learn but keep up the great work, the control system videos are really helpful.

Yeah, you can probably tighten it without disconnecting the wire from the board. It's a very very tiny connection.

Right now, you can't control any Lionel engines as the new cable is not released.

I'm going to order one for one reason only! To get rid of that stupid wiu which I have to unplug the tiu cord every single time to get the purple light, so sick if it, how much sean $300. I'll spend it no problem

So with this mth unit it ,can it runLionel trains fully with all the features ?

It can run Lionel TMCC/Legacy. Not sure about every single Legacy feature, but most, I think. That functionality has not changed from before that I know of. I'll let someone else comment who has that setup. Also, you will keep everything you have now but need one additional cable (a pigtail) that will convert the USB port to Serial to connect to your existing cable. It is due out in a month or so, probably 1st quarter 2025.

Hi Sean. Great Video. Going to try the new one. I do have the old TIU with the WiFi module too. In my case I use a Lionel ZW transformer to power the track and a MTH brick to power the TiU. My one port on the TIU overloaded when I had a derailment a while ago and haven’t been able to get the TIU to stop blowing fuses. So going to try the new WTIU. Question is how to put fuse / circuit breaker between track and new WTIU. So that if I do have a bad derailment I don’t ruin the new WTIU ?

Yeah, never use a PW ZW with a TIU unless you have a quick acting breaker in between. Personally, myself I only use modern bricks to go through the TIU. You might want to put a question or look on OGR forum as many guys have done what you need to between the ZW and TIU.

The wireless matters on mobile layouts at shows... friends accessing someone else's layout on accident and interfering with operation when you have 6 in the same hall😊

If I just want to patch this into my existing layout as a freestanding unit to control my MTH locomotives, do I have to connect it to a home WiFi? Will the antenna be necessary if I don’t want to connect to my home WiFi?

There's a firmware upgrade on the MTH site for the WTIU. Is your unit at the latest version? It was released on 11/22

@ Thought you could use a usb to Rs32 cable an then connect to a Lionel SER 2 then from the Ser2 pdi to the base 3 Is the usb to Rs32 cable pinned differently. I already have the Mth serial cable that would go between the usb cable and the Ser2

Sean, can you run multiple WTIU’s in super mode? Do you still name one as the master and the others as the slaves as was done with the WIU?

Yes, you can run Super mode and its same setup as far as I know, but I don't have that setup. But the guide does mention it briefly with no further instruction. So, you can run WTIU with WIU/TIU. Make sure to download guide form MTH site.

sean, you stated you could reorganize the engines in the engine roster by taping the sceen button to the right. mine only moves the engine from active to inactive. I am using the android app. are you using the ios app? whats the latest app version btw?

Engines rosters are in the Lionel App. You can reorganize the MTH order by renaming your engines though.

With the new WTIU having its own power supply unit, do you have to run power through it from another psu? Can you just have the track feeders (star wiring) run to a terminal block, and then the terminal block connected to the WTIU? I am new and only plan on using DCS and Legacy with the Base3. That power supply is just for the unit, not for powering track. You still need a transformer for your track power.

@@seanstraindepot I just watched the video from Mike Wolf. You still have to run the track power supply through one of the fixed outputs on the tiu. I guess that is obvious to some, but I only have a Base 3 which does not operate this way. I guess now the question becomes, how do you connect the base 3 and new TIU? Mike Wolf just said you need the serial cable from MTH DCS and buy a serial usb connector. That sounds messy. Will the one power supply to the track going through the TIU work to supply power to the track with the Base3 if both boxes are on?

@@TheSalsy1 Yes, you need the special USB to Serial pigtail they will be releasing. Then the pigtail will connect to the old Serial cable that then connects to your TMCC/Legacy system.

They will be releasing a pigtail (USB to Phone Cable) that will allow you to connect a phone handset cable (purchased off Amazon for example). So, it's just a pigtail they will be selling.
