Sean, awesome job. As to the clearance you were speaking of where you removed the lock washers and used Locktite instead was that clearance issue compounded when your oversized the holes for the rods so that the plate did not rest on the nuts? No criticism just asking.

It’s real easy to fix the diaphragms, just pull them out and flip them. They used to come not installed.

Yeah, I also I had to wash them under hot water because the foam they used, fused to the rubber when I tried to pull it out.

HAHA. I think they are new to train making. Paint finishes seem to be the biggest issue. Luckily, I was able to swap them out and get a whole set with no blemishes.

Great addition! I just bought a complete 10 car set of the C&O passenger cars from the Lionel 2022 volume 2 book from Nicholas Smith as well. All 2 pack sets and the station sounds dining car. Mine are painted in the modern C&O blue, yellow, and grey livery. The new Legacy C&O F19 Pacific's will arrive at Lionel on July 21st and will finally arrive at dealers by the end of that month.

A great review of a very beautiful passenger set, Sean. Too bad about the flaws that make the set look a little less than perfect. I hope you can find more acceptable match-ups to make the set more pleasing visually.

The "aisle" was a corridor that ran alongside private sleeping accommodations, i.e. Compartments & Drawing Rooms. Compartments had a sink and commode in the room with the seating that transferred into beds at night. Drawing Rooms had an "Annex" containeing the sink and commode for privacy and were more expensive. The sleeping cars with the obsession were actually an indication of more expensive accommodations.

"Some Classic Trains" & "More Classic Trains" were written by Arthur D. Durbin about fifty years ago. They can be purchased economically on eBay with a wee bit of patience. Amongst the passenger trains included are The George Washington & the1938 20th Century Ltd. & the 1938 Broadway Ltd. They illustrate exteriors and interiors of many passenger trains and would help provide background information on the trains you're collecting.

The roof of the Combination Baggage & Club Car may be reversed; the greater number of ventilators along the clerestory may belong above the club section rather than the baggage end. The club lounge was traditionally where men would go to smoke including pipes and cigars.

If that screw is for a lubrication port how are you going to unscrew it now and then with the tape going right across the screw and onto the engine chassis? I wonder, would it be possible to cut round the tape while it’s on the screw head then push a Phillips screw driver into the tape on the screw head to profile the cross on the screw head. Then you would have tape on the screw head only, with the screwdriver cross indent ready to use if you need to unscrew it in the future. I must say though that that tape is really excellent stuff. Loved the video.

Nice video as always. But, if you Lionel guys would stop paying the ridiculous money for this Lionel Crap maybe they would stop making this stuff in 3rd world factories. Just a thought! Although if I want American Flyer I have the same issue. But I did stop buying anything new from them. No reason they can’t have better Quality Control . Cbtrainnut
@johnandrus39016 күн бұрын
How true. If they are going to stay overseas, go back to S. Korea, Taiwan, Japan, India or even an Easter European country, like Poland. They actually make some pretty nice stuff. So it may add an hundred bucks to an already $2000+ locomotive. You can't crab about an extra C-note, if the quality drastically improves Either way, it would be good to get out of the Communist Block countries.
@seanstraindepot6 күн бұрын
Well Lionel will never bring back manufacturing to US. It costs too much. You think the prices are high now, they would be ridiculous. Plus, they are owned by an investment company. They only care about profits simple as that. So, at this point we just have to check and exchange/return if there are defects. I don't buy as much as I used to since I have plenty.
@johnandrus39016 күн бұрын
@@seanstraindepot True. I doubt that it will return to the US, at least in my lifetime. It would at least be better if they moved to a country that is more friendly with the US. like Korea, where they once were, or one of the other countries that I mentioned in my answer to the gentleman's comment. I've always thought that Viet Nam was an insult to those, like my brother, who served there during the conflict. Either way, if they keep sending stuff back, it may help increase quality. As I stated, an excellent video, as always.
@seanstraindepot6 күн бұрын
@@johnandrus3901 Yeah the Korean factories made the absolute finest trains. Both Lionel & MTH used those factories and trains made during that era were the best. Seems to be that most of Lionel's rolling stock and passenger cars are now coming out of Vietnam and engines out of China (which is why they don't match a lot of times).

Aside from the cheap n' cheesy packaging and the minor flaws you pointed out those 'Nam-built cars look pretty good. As I understand it Lionel's trying to back out of China slowly but surely so I think the more the Vietnam factory does the better they're going to get. Thanks for sharing them with us Sean!

Beautiful set. So frustrating when you pay good money and then find these little issues. But all in all, they look great. Was awesome to see you yesterday and hang out.
@johnandrus39017 күн бұрын
Very nice. Those are some fine looking cars. The Central Florida Railroad Museum has some George Washington china on display. It has a similar look to it as the drum head on the observation car, with a gold band around the outside and the portrait set in white. Those cars are still pretty long. I'm running seven to ten car sets of AMT and 2500 series Lionel cars and they take up much of back stretch on my outer main, which is twenty-four feet long. Adding three inches per car would add almost three feet to the train, which is a fair amount. Either way, they look good on your layout. An excellent video, as always.
