@HaloCE14 It was pretty funny how they saved one of the mohawks. When the New York Central switched to diesel they got rid of every steamer they had even the Hudsons. But the workers on the railroad loved the Mohawks so much they decided to hide it in a roundhouse behind a wall of boxes and believe it or not nobody noticed it. Then when time came to move it out without any trouble they did! I find it amazing that they did that.

@esiegel76 MTH has already integrated Protosound 3.0 in all of their Premier steam engines. MTH still has to integrate Protosound 3.0 into their Premier Diesel engines. Railking remains Protosound 2.0.

My dead uncle ran niagara's and other big New York Central steam locomotives. There was a young kid driving a sedan with waiting at the crossing and just when the engine was almost at the crossing he pulled out and my uncle hit him and it took him two miles to stop the train and then he had to back up there was not a piece of the car left that was bigger than 4-foot square. On dynamometer test hey Niagara put out over 6000 horsepower.

I was surfing around and come to this old video, Eric your Mohawk, nice engine. I was thinking about how far you have come and I`ve come a long way from one steam engine to about 38, Challenger, big boy 4-8-8-4 #4014, Hudson, 4-8-4 daylights #4449 [ hear in Portland back in1975 I worked for a welding shop I run the automatic welders and welded the 8 wheels of the main drivers we machine the wheels and then heat them up to a rosy red then put the wheel rings on the wheels. that was for the American Freedom train] all three models, to name a few, and 47 deciles BMSF #9347, George Bush# 4141, 1111 the people's engine just to name a few. all of my engines are premiere MTH. I`m working on my layout room that's 25x34ft my wife has taken over every room but the basement and I put a line on the floor and said it's war if you come over that line! I just ordered a yellowstone #225, 2-8-8-4 from MTH or Lionel Trains which one comes first and I just got my MTH 4-12-2 Union Pacific premiere steam engine. Eric, I love my trains and I know you do too!

Hey Eric. Would you recommend buying this engine in MTH's Railking line? They have it in their 2010 catalog and it looks pretty neat. What do you think?

@noahnole Protosound 3.0 is what MTH uses in their HO engines. They use Protosound 2.0 in the O-Scale stuff. I've heard that MTH is coming out with a DCS upgrade sometime soon, but as far as I know there's no word on when that will happen.

Hey, my layout is modern themed with no steam, but I decided to pick up a few steam engines anyway just for fun. Steam engines still get used today for tourist trains and so forth, so I may use it for that when my layout is done.
@Ericstrains13 жыл бұрын
@TheTrainman888 I set the chuff rate to 2 because I personally like the sound of 2 chuffs. That's one of the great things about MTH engines is that they allow you to customize the chuff rate to your liking.
@Ericstrains14 жыл бұрын
@railfan845 I didn't order the 2-10-10-2. I ordered the Vision UP Challenger and the 700E.

@Railroadtrip445 Matt, that would be sweet if you got an MTH steamer! They just came out with a C&O Kanawha (a.k.a. a Berkshire). I know you already have one, but this locomotive has a different look to it than your Berkshire. Check it out at their website. They also came out with another Mohawk and with roller bearings on the drive rods this time. If you do get one just make sure you have the DCS system because you can access a lot more controls than with the conventional transformer.

Before you finish all your mountain work- can you make an instructional video on your mountains and tunnels?- the best tunnels ive seen!! Plus you use some materials that i have never heard of and im curious how you did it- it will look good with your other instructional vids! Thanks a lot- Happy New Year!

how would the smoke deflectors work in the real world if they are below the smoke stack? Im a little confused, sorry..
@MMID30310 жыл бұрын
I'm no expert, but I would think they work at higher speeds creating an up-draft keeping the smoke from falling down towards the cab.

MMID303 Your pretty much spot on what the smoke deflectors did.
@vidfreak72710 жыл бұрын
Im not sure thats true lol. Shouldnt the smoke deflectors be higher up for them to work?
@SwindellSteamWorks10 жыл бұрын
vidfreak727 It would probably depend on the locomotive design. But, if the locomotive is at speed, the deflectors would work fine.
