Thanks a bunch!! One reason I stayed with Protosound 1 happened back when I purchased an MTH Protosound 2 U50C and an SD24. I took the cover off the U50C to check something and almost wished I had not done that. I did not like the numerous tiny wires either, plus it was not easily repairable by me. I can fix Protosound 1 stuff. A tough decision because the new features were amazing. I also like to mix up locos in consists up to 3 units, and I did not want to deal with different operating systems. And yes, Protosound 1 has the feel of strong! It works well for me. PS - are you completely moving on from this hobby?

Call it a "break". I haven't even so much as looked at a train in a loooooooong time, and for me: it was "burnout". The constant "war" (with MTH trains), "took it's toll", as more and more equipment needed parts. One day I left quite an "articulated message" (saying that I was going to to GO THERE, and see things for myself, IN-PERSON !) and: *in a "voice-stertorous" tone: ask - WHY I wasn't being answered / contacted back amid an anger that grew and grew (from repeatably being ignored, even having written letters !) .... Well: I GOT that call, (with a lot of "sigh's"), and after "talking to a brick wall", I did EXACTLY what was said in their reply; "then just don't buy it Tom" !! I NEVER went back / said screw-them. "that's it". :- )

You're right, impedance doesn't really matter, so long as it is in range with the amplifer's capability. Lower impedence just makes it easier for the amplifer to send power to the speaker. So, a 20 watt providiing a full 20 watts to a 4 ohm speaker would only provide 10 watts to an 8ohm speaker, hence higher Db that you noticed. You could theoretically have multiple speakers in parallel (which will create a much lower impedence) assuming the amplifer could handle the power consumption.

I used to (and DID) try that ... (multiple speakers), it made no "real" change. (Just "FYI"). :- )

Hey Gordon ! This was a while back, and I'm always selling stuff ... ALL my Lionel PostWar Equip's. gone, (& all my American Flyer), and I continue to do this with/ in "small-step's". While I love Trains (and always will), I tended to "crossover" to MTH Trains ... LATER: amid no 'support' (parts / Service/ communication), I then with-drew and my interests have swung toward other things, "mainly cars". I refuse to patronize what I deem to be the WORST Company in the Earth !. *I voted with my wallet ("as that's all I have") ... It was NOT this way when I was "hot & heavy" / buying things, ... but when they went from about 80 people down to what: "3 now", that sewed it up. Call the SOB's up and you'll see ... "LOL" BEST :- )

well I do own several MTH products, and have had problems in the past, but since ive moved, I havent ran anything in 10 years, (all the Batteries are removed) met mike in san diego about 16 years ago, he was not very nice of a person.

Interesting ... "He was to me". I met him / spoke several times. Listening to the man TOTALLY COUNTERDICTS the way his Company's run ... Anyway: he well knows about all that's wrong and doesn't care. "I was one of the heaviest hitters there was too" ... The difference: "They could give a crap" !. That's what they told a LOOOOOONG while back: "then just don't buy it Sir". I never went back. Wait until you revisit your stuff and your engines boards are all fried ... it's no fun having to BEG for help / support. *winner: "none".

I agree, I was buying his stuff ,before he had a catalog like 1995 ish...ive had computer problems.....but to tell like it is, Mike is a business man, he has burned a lot of bridges, all he wants to do , is sell the product. forget the warranty, he really doesn't care.
