if i'm not mistaken you had a pre heat underneath the board so thats why you easily remove the chip
@almirandrade45820 күн бұрын
The probability of rendering the chip useless using this method is very high. If the chip is small, soldering is faster, with larger chips you can even crack in the middle.

You can't make your own solder balls reliably. Almost a guarantee that one of those chips is shorting. They sell solder balls in very specific sizes for a reason, so you don't put too much solder on any one pad. Those screens, aren't for pushing solder paste through, they are for lining up actual balls of solder. Too much solder on 1 pad will bridge several.
@Appri2 жыл бұрын
I agree with this, but again the guy got it working. He probably knows better than you... I know those stencils are only for solder balls, but if it works for him, it probably works for anyone else. He showed the chips with the "balls" on each pad, and they all seem to be fine, so no biggy,
@fabian112352 жыл бұрын
A stencil with solder paste is a viable way to re-ball a bga chips. Area of rectangular holes x thickness off the stencil = fixed volume --> same amount of solder on each pad. The execution in the video wasn't the best but that doesn't mean its not a perfectly good method.
@Druid_Plow2 жыл бұрын
@@Appri he didn't show completed repair, it's very unlikely the repair works.
@Druid_Plow2 жыл бұрын
@@fabian11235 it is not consistent at all, solder paste has inconsistently sized pieces in it And could have more or less solder in every tiny drop. And too much on 1 single pad will, not can, will bridge several pads.

1. How you get this modern tin based solder to melt at 350c? I've never been able to even get the stuff to melt at any temperature below 370c. Unless maybe my thermal sensor was out of whack or something.. 🤷♂️ 2. Why didn't you use tweezers to lift the chips? Like, are you TRYING to knock other components loose? I spent around 5 years doing this sort of work, and I surely wouldn't have went about any of it that carelessly.
@HeLrAiSiNg12 жыл бұрын
Well his work suck i dont think its working prob 50/50 chance of it working now also what u mean modern tin based solder you might mean the grey paste stuff that thing melts at such low temps i fixed some chargers i had lying around for fun after buying such paste and it did melted at 250 with heat gun so less temp might be suficient too thing is its made of most paste and dust of solder thats why it melts in seconds in low temp whilst solid core rosin solder need higher temps cause is solid piece of tin rather than dust in flux if you take for ex the solder the plumbers or guys that install metal tubes etc its like normal solder but bigger in diameter this thing need blowtorch to melt a solder iron takes time to melt a blob out of it
@southernflatland2 жыл бұрын
@@HeLrAiSiNg1 Dude, whether the solder was in paste form or not prior to chip installation, the metal melts together into the same solid metal when it's all said and done. And by federal law, since about 2007 or 2008, any solder used in mass manufacturing HAS to be tin based, lead based solder processing is too toxic for the factory workers and the environment. When he started, the chip was mounted on the board with fully solidified original factory solder. I couldn't care less if the factory used a solder paste or not, after the solder was heated and the chip was installed and cleaned, that solder was fully solidified metal.

Speaking as someone who has repaired electronics for 40 years and is an electrical engineer I can’t help but think ; all this work and it’s only going to fail again from heat / cool cycles detaching the balls / chips esp without mechanical downforce. BGA is the worst thing ever for reliability - millions of devices dead before their time inflicting pain on consumers and their wallets !
