Tempus Fugit. Seeing Gary and Rhoda (Ron Silver and Valerie Harper) so young and vibrant in this show; it is hard to believe that they have now both passed away. What also is hard to believe is that it has been so many years since the television show "Rhoda" was on the air. It seems like yesterday and it has been over 40 years ago. The majority of folks are spot on: over the course of 2-3 seasons, the show needed Rhoda moving back to NY, meeting different men, then meeting a special man to whom she eventually gets engaged, THEN get married (and that could have been an entire season itself), then having a baby.......that could be a whole other season.......instead they made our favorite friend/daughter/sister have a disaster of a relationship, and ruined a good show. Not to mention that David Groh suffered for about 2 years bc of this plot change; he got all kinds of hate mail, threats, etc (there can be a fine line between reality and fantasy).

Gary is hilarious! The "Welcome" mat beside the round bed and the enormous disco ball in his bedroom are screamingly funny. I turned 21 in 1974, and the character of Gary nailed the lounge lizard, necklace wearing types from that era. The aviator-style glasses were an accessory staple. The only things he's missing are white shoes and a white belt. UGH!! Even his pickup lines are spot on. There was a tacky so-called singles bar here in LVL called Flaherty's III where Gary would've fit right in. There were DROVES of these guys in the place on any given night. I'm pretty sure a large percentage of the "single guys" weren't. There were no natural fibers to be found adorning these clowns (at least Gary wears denim), My friends and I only went to the place once, mainly to observe, and stayed only 30 minutes. It was surreal.
