MTSU professor discusses his documentary 'Milton Hershey's Cuba'

"Milton Hershey's Cuba," a documentary created by Dr. Ric Morris, a professor of Spanish in MTSU's Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, is featured in the February edition of "Out of the Blue," MTSU's monthly video magazine.
The documentary was screened in Hershey, Pa., the weekend of Jan. 25 after its first public viewing at MTSU Nov. 12 in MTSU's Student Union Theatre.
Morris uses archival film, still photographs, on-site footage and never-before-seen interviews in the 40-minute film.
The documentary, which is Morris' second film, chronicles the commercial and social enterprises of American chocolatier Milton Hershey in Cuba during the early 20th century.
Hershey's endeavors include construction of the island's largest sugar refinery and 251 miles of electric railway lines. He also created a company town for 2,000 employees who were offered unprecedented perks and privileges.
Morris also created the documentary "Cuba in the Raw: A Story of Sugar." That film was screened on campus in the fall of 2012 at a similar public event.
The MTSU College of Graduate Studies, the Office of International Affairs and the College of Liberal Arts funded "Milton Hershey's Cuba."
