His rhythm playing & backing vocals weren't as 'out front' as his lead playing but he was incredible at those also. I've avoided any videos since he died but KZbin led me here today. 😥🤘
@123jozef3 жыл бұрын
@@nancyannschroeck ~ Actually, if you can imagine having a brother like Alex on drums and a father who engulfed them with music and the classical piano, you would realize that Eddies roots would have been with his rhythmic abilities. It was just him and Alex jamming for years and years before they got a bass player. It would have been pretty crappy for him just to play lead guitar while Alex was in the pocket. This is WHY Ed could play things like the intro to Mean Streets. Eddie was EXTREMELY percussive... his lead playing was SECOND to his rhythmic abilites. Its just that his leads appear to be so 'flashy' ... he would tell you himself that his lead guitar playing was just jacking around. His rhythm OTOH was extremely precise and well thought out. His solos, many times were pieces he had to actually LEARN because the producer was constantly recording him while he was just jamming "whatever' .. and then he would splice all the best pieces together and tell Ed "learn it like this' and Eddie would do that. ... just like he did with his very FIRST recognizeable solo "ERUPTION" which is what put him on the map as a top contender. Eddie was very spontaneous with his leads. His rhythms were very well rehearsed

Was at the concert too. Had a terrific time. I was at the back of the stadium and remember seeing when that huge food/trash fight started. I think also they weren't selling any alcohol at convenience stores for several blocks around the stadium that day. I still have my T-shirt.

Rice Stadium in Houston - I was 19 years old with one of my best friends (who just passed away 2 years ago). What an amazing concert! All tickets were general admission, so the field was NUTS! And it had to have been one of the hottest days ever in Houston! They'd spray firehoses to cool off the crowd but that only made it even worse - just like a sauna! A very memorable, miserable and still awesome day (and night) that I would absolutely go back and do over in a heartbeat! RIP Juder!!!

Sorry for your loss. I was there with two friends and definitely remember the heat. Sammy sang so great, so great he blew his voice out the next night in Dallas. The floor was general admission, but the bleacher seats were reserved, ours were so bad ( almost parallel with the stage) that we went down onto the floor. Great concert.

Eddie had a smile on his face constantly when he was playing. I remember like it was yesterday seeing VH1 on the rack at Rainbow records when it first came out. Bought it and it changed my life. Love Sammy too but David was the voice of Van Halen to me. Always will be.

I saw some of these bands at the Texas Jam in the 80's. Looking back at the lineups for the Texas Jams from the late 70s to mid 80's, these were some amazing bands. Just wish they were scheduled for sometime other than the Texas summers. Brutal!

My Brothers and I saw 10 Texxas Jams, including the Monsters of Rock show, every one of them, from the front row, year after year. I did miss the year they did the show in Houston, but 2 of my brothers went. I was interviewed by Q-102 at this show, because they recognized us from being front row from the year before. I dropped so many f-bombs on the radio that day !!! 😂 I also have every Texas Jam t-shirt I ever bought, and I bought 5 of the official Texxas Jam Books for my Brothers, that you can get on Amazon for $20 ! These truly were the 11 greatest days of my life...

All these videos with 80's rock have hundreds of thousands/millions of views even though there isn't hardly any 80's rock bands in the mainstream. Makes me feel like the music industry doesn't want people to like 80's metal. The people sure do.

Lamestream syndicated radio is a strange and pathetic thing now. Feel so lucky to have come of age during the FM radio revolution. People now take for granted what at one time was literally a miracle .....full stereo signal on radio frequencys and underground stations playing whatever they wanted. Crank it!

Yes. Twice at the same concert. I went to 2 of the 3 nights for the '81 Fair Warning tour at the L.A. Forum. Something was wrong with the guitar and he was not happy and then something went wrong with a monitor. I think someone lost their job that night.

I saw this tour as a teenager at the Cotton Bowl in Texas. Man it was hot that day, we were lucky and our seats were on the shaded side, lots of people passed out from heat exhaustion. The Scorpions and Metallica put on the best show. Lars had an all black Tama drum kit, sounded awesome! I think there's still some old footage of that concert, weird to think I was there in the crowd as a 17 year old.
