Who saw that last guys setup? A generator, TV with Roku, lights, and an AC Unit. He also drove a nice new car, it was really fascinating to look inside the tents of these people and see where they rest their heads at night. Its also wild to see people working full time jobs and still being homeless. Austin is passing a camping ban that may remove tents from a lot of these places, I wonder what options will be provided to people who are stripped of their tent homes. Will the city of Austin provide them with alternative housing? Also to anyone who wants to buy merch before the store closes or checkout the podcast on patreon the links are in the description. PS: Shoutout to Blake Messick for the help editing, that guy's awesome.

Alot of mental health workers are just there to follow decimate policy and pick up their paycheck. Hope big banks and all the crooked corporations who commit fraud get due process ran on them, and asset forfiture to. Enough vacant bank owned homes that were aquired thru fraud in this country to house everyone who needs a home. I say the government should hand all tgese peopke 100million dollar checks. I was homeless in Austin for 2 years. What drove me to the streets was drugs, I was addicted to heroin and I ran out of people to enable my habit. It was really tough, people dont understand that there's not much you can do to get better. The outreach in austin for the homeless like the AARCH are drug hot spots. So let's say I wanted to try and go to the AARCH to get a bed to sleep in and a shower, on my way into the building I'd be propositioned by about 20 other drug addicts trying to sell me something. Homeless people aren't dumb, they were once apart of "civilized society". People become homeless because of a drug addiction, mental illness, or death of family/family turns on you- and even if you weren't addicted to drugs when you became homeless, I'm almost 100% sure you will be. We need to do better, i became homeless at 18 from my addiction and I never would have made it out without support from family- most dont have that priviledge. (I'm 3 years clean now and in college)

as a born and raised austinite i really appreciate you making this video. it was kinda surreal seeing some of the locations you filmed knowing i drove by there maybe just the other day, and i really might’ve seen some of these people, at the very least in passing. Austin’s relationship with the homeless is so mixed all around; gentrifying yuppies come in from the coasts and claim to be liberal and care about the homeless and advocate for shelters to be more widespread, until it means they might have to be in their neighborhoods. most of the austin natives or long-time residents genuinely see homeless people as pests, but still think the camping ban is useless. the fact that the city officials come by for wellness checks and to drop off food says something, but so does APD basically spawn-camping drug arrests at some of the encampments, which just restarts the cycle. I know a good amount of homeless people, basically anyone in town who hangs out at the 24hr coffee shops does, and they can tell you stories of them as friends and human beings. I appreciate you making this and showing the unhoused people as people, not pests, not as political pawns, but regular people who really just got fucked by the system.

A tiny margin are just having serious mental health issues. My heart goes out to them. I learned when you have had enough pain you become willing to make a change. Almost everything said was blowing smoke up your ass to appeal to your emotion. I'm speaking from being exactly in their position. Now I'm a home owner and have a small business.
