I found this interview just today and I can’t help feeling, as I watched Armie Hammer, what a huge waste. The guy had everything and lost it all because of the sordid things he did. No more career, his wife divorced him and now he working in an hotel in the Cayman island to stay close of his children. It must have been heartbreaking for Timothée Chalamet to see the downfall of someone who used to be a friend.

This is not a "gay" movie. This is a love story between two consenting people who feel a true sense of connection between each other. Love is not a gender. As long as there is a heart in a body love can be created. And for me this was a truly Beautiful story about two Beautiful people. I wish it did not end.

Sharon Lefkowitz Finally someone said it !!! Everyone talking about how "gay" this movie is but when you watch it, it doesn't even remotely feel like it's taliking about sexual orientation, it's just about love. Love has no gender, no limits, no prejudice and that's exactly what this movie shows.

I’m gay and I agree with Armie that it’s so special and amazing to see a movie where two men fall in love and they do not pay any price for falling in love with another man, just the price of falling in love with someone who is moving away.

@@thomasthompson6378 i totally agree with you. And isn't what we all go thru when we're in that age group? Falling in love, and 3 months later. We get our heart broken. I can totally relate to this love story. Passionate, pure and at the same time innocent. But all love. I just simply fell in love again by just watching this film. Bravo for such great actors, performance and director.

I love that Armie said "The movie show, No one paid to being gay, no punishment, nobody get sick, nobody has a wife that they need to tell or family drama" that great, most of LGBT movie always show all of that problem, but this movie show pure love.

Sweetheart I hate to bring you back down to earth. But in the real world homosexuality indeed does have many consequences-disease, broken relationships, rampant drug and alcohol abuse and general emptiness. Sad but very true.
@jduchiha4656
@jduchiha4656 5 жыл бұрын
@@dg-sl5jb Point is that this is generally what films tend to highlight. Telling realistic stories is great for everyone gives us something to relate to and learn from but what OP and Armie were saying is that it's nice to have some lgbt stories where the main character doesn't die of aids, commit suicide, do drugs or desert a family that depended on him. We're not all diseased/selfish, ya know

d g Wow you really have a dark and pessimistic view of homosexual relationships... In my country being gay is not a big deal. I came out as gay at 14, and held hands with my boyfriend in highschool. Never felt different. Where do you live? Maybe it's harder in your country?

once, my grandpa asked me what my favorite movie was and i said 'call me by your name' and he asked me what it was about and i just said "it's about two people falling in love with each other, and enjoying their love throughout a summer" and my dad said "it's about a gay couple actually" in such a demeaning way and it amazed me how closed minded and non-accepting people can be. this movie isn't about a gay couple, it's about two people loving each other, yes their both guys but that doesn't mean their love is different or not real.

treg1980 the movie was set in 1983 though, not 2017. And the whole point of the movie and relationship between those two wasn’t for the sex scenes, it was about pure, real love. Having a steamy sex scene would take away from it, it’s much more intimate to have the viewer imagine it.

c beauty wrong. One is 17, one is 24. Both are consenting. Both are well above the age of consent, which is 14 in Italy. The younger guy initiates. There is no power at play. How is that paedophilic in the slightest? Paedophilia is attraction to pre-pubescent. Also, it's based off book, is directed by an Italian, has made a big splash at Cannes. my favorite thing about this movie is that it’s not about sex. every teen romance movie nowadays feels like the whole time there just building up to sex and they have so many scenes like that. the movie is about pure love, and a lot of their interactions feel more intimate than the sex scene. it just feels more real, and i praise these actors for seeing the movie beyond its gay love and seeing it just as a normal romance

I read the book front and back many times. Elio paid the price of falling in love during the entire timeline. He cried after they had their first sex together because he knew that it will tarnish everything that he is protecting; emotional attachment to be more precise. He knew then and there that Oliver was really going to be his love and when Oliver mentioned the famous catchphrase, they had an underlying agreement that they will be one; Oliver is Elio and Elio is Oliver. If we’re looking into the present perspective while they are in love, yes they were experiencing self-loathing moments but they cannot afford not to give in with what’s in front of them: that’s how passionate the love they shared. However, Elio was the only one paying the price when Oliver got married. It was a really hard time for him to meet his wife and kids just because he still can’t get over what happened 15-20 years earlier because it was his first and he considers Oliver the one that got away. Elio in the book was so passionately in love that he got hurt and got so deeply in love with Oliver.

I also don't see how working for a known child molester would further your career in this climate of #MeToo. He fucked up by making an incredibly tone deaf selfish choice. Every time an actor plays gay, an instant question is "how was the kiss? How did you handle a sex scene?" and I'm like, what is this, junior high? It's ACTING, it's not Porn. Do these people think actors are really doing it on Film? Heck, even the kiss is fake. Amie Hammer comes off as very shy and Chalamet is a milennial so it's a non-issue for him.

Pixie Lavender But no one is saying it's anything like porn. It's a fair question. Two straight dudes swapping spit with each other for the sake of acting requires bravery. Even Armie admitted he was uneasy at first. Don't undermine the bravery and talent here!

I'm rolling my eyes. Bravery? I've kissed women and I'm gayer than a box of velveeta. Do I deserve a medal for that? There's nothing brave about doing your job. And Armie has already kissed a guy before in "J. Edgar" with Leo Dicaprio. It's 2017, this kind of questioning is nothing but gay-baiting as well as trying to get a response which could be misconstrued as homophobic.

Pixie Lavender Eye rolling back at ya bud. If you make out with an 80 year old grandma for a scene, people are gonna ask you about it. If straight guys make out for a scene, people are gonna ask about it. It's not about sexuality. It's about comfort. armie specifically stated he originally felt uncomfortable about it. Why is that so hard to accept, and why are you undermining their talent as actors?
@usernamemaybe
@usernamemaybe 6 жыл бұрын
To be fair Armie never specified it was the gay aspect to make him uncomfortable as much much as the level of intimacy the scenes required(he said he was afraid he wasn't able to pull it off and it was the first time he had a movie with that level of intimacy). But I agree that it is inevitable for these kind of questions to come up...at least nowadays actors are gracious about it. A few years back for Brokeback mountain you should have heard some interviews, questions like these were more direct and the answers from the actors were stunningly awful. Like they had to battle inner demons or something, kinda ridiculous. Do they ask the same to gay actors playing straight romances? Or value their "effort" as much? Probaly not. And who knows how many actors in Hollywood are in the closet and constantly have love scenes with the gender they're not attracted to...and if they come out they don't get many job opportunities. It is unfair to think about.
