A decade + of doing Muay Thai and still learning a lot from this video! No one ever explained the square stance on the ropes. Gem 📝 🧠 💡

Great content! In future videos, I hope you expand more on the tactics you were hinting at around 9:22 and talk more about 1)preventing yourself from getting on the ropes, 2) escaping the ropes and 3)fighting off the ropes. Coach had some great advice about when you find yourself against the ropes, but in my opinion, the left kick against the ropes only goes so far and I would argue that technical fighters should try their hardest to get back to center where they can regain their advantage of controlling distance and being mobile. The ropes is exactly where the brawler wants the long technical fighter because it takes away his reach advantage AND his ability to control distance through backwards movement. The ropes gives the brawler great opportunities to tee off power shots and I've found it's really hard to maintain the muay femur technical style against the ropes and not end up brawling my way back to center. Personally, I try using good ringcraftmanship by cutting angles so I can prevent myself from getting on the ropes, but I’ve found it's really hard to do that in the early rounds of a fight or hard sparring because the brawler is fresh and explosive. Until you’re able to drain his gas tank through teeps and left kicks, I feel like the brawler gains a huge advantage when the technical fighter is against the ropes so it’s really really important to fight back for the center of the ring. Would love to hear more tactics and have you talk about your mindset in approaching problems like this. Love the channel.

There are many ways to handle a brawler but being against the ropes in a squared stance is the way that works for me. When they get to close, I suggest long knee and then clinch to utilize their hands. Thanks for watching

I noticed you mentioned to have a square stance while on the ropes, could you kindly explain the reasoning/benefits behind this? My main worry is if this opens you up more for a liver shot?
