Tarantino is one of the last purist film makers, and he’s about to stop making films. Thank god we have people like Coralie to carry that torch. FFS - She turned down making Black Widow to make this film because she wouldn’t have final say in the editing! Side Note: For those noticing The Substance has some Black Mirror vibes (obviously), it appears it’s thematically based on her 2014 short film “Reality+” which explored similar ideas and was it self pitched as … you guessed it - a Black Mirror episode.

Hollywood could never. No unnecessary distractions by trying to make movie sellable and appeasing to the masses, and that's what made it truly great. This movie was pure ART. I was so captivated by the story, the acting, the visuals, the sound, everything - it shook me in the best way. I thought about it for days if not weeks. And after seeing this making-of video I see why - the crew of truly devoted, creative and passionate people were working in bringing Coralie's vision to life in a true and authentic way. Idk, it almost brings tear to my eye. Such a transformative piece of cinema, one of the best made this century. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart 💜

She’s such a visionary filmmaker. She was behind the camera? (most directors aren’t), she edits? The woman is such an artist. Eager to see what she does next. This is a theme as old as time, and so universal, that I’m surprised it hadn’t been tackled in such a visceral manner in recent times. We were overdue in having this conversation once more. While female beauty is commodified, and women are constantly dehumanized as sex objects (“things” of youth and beauty), and therefore it will hit closer to home for them (not only in Hollywood but everywhere); we can all relate to Elizabeth in some manner. Who hasn’t felt insecure about their appearance at least once? Who hasn’t thought “If I were skinnier, more muscular, had the perfect jawline, less wrinkled, younger, didn’t have this scar here, if my teeth were straight, if my skin was lighter, darker, if I made more money, had the better job, less this, more of that, etc.”. It’s a universal feeling, that even the people we consider beautiful experience. Insecurities plague all of us. Comparing ourselves to others and what they have and we don’t have, for beauty and/or wealth and status. Because beauty is status in the end. People treated Sue better, because she was younger and “therefore” beautiful.
