This customer hired us to muck out his drainage ditch but ended up having us catch gutters in his back yard. A previous contractor had installed perforated pipes to catch gutter water. This sends the water straight under ground with no where to go. We corrected this by installing solid PVC pipe and carrying the water to the adjacent creek.

Nice job! I like how you extended the pipe out enough from the creek edge that you don't need a critter guard or have to worry about it getting covered over with dirt or thatch. Yeah, it sucks when you can't get the county or state to clear culverts that are backing up properties you've been hired to help. I enjoy the videos.

It'd last longer if the ditch was dug wider & further into the yard. LID, Federally adopted Low Impact Development recommends 2% side slopes on grassed swales. The lower slope also makes it easier to mow if it ever dries out.

This is exactly what I need to do to our ditch. We live behind a big company and we get all their runoff water. I never know the terminology to use so this video and the comments are so helpful! We have a big oak tree on the side of our hill that our house sits on and there is a ground hog living in there. It’s been there for years. We just moved in last winter. We are concerned about the hill our house sits on because when it rains it floods the big ditch. If we were to do this to our ditch should we and could we use to dirt that comes out to sort of pack the hill? Or is that a bad idea? Thanks for your help!

should"t you have installed some kind of stone or small rock to keep the ditch from filling in again over time?

Why didn’t you taper the ditch so you could run a lawn mower along the ditch, would have made the ditch more aesthetics appealing ??
