Wasn't a Bill Withers fan but, thanks to him, we have this excellent cover of one of his songs. Close to being the best cover version of all time. Thanks Bill. Hope you had someone to lean on in your last hours.

My dad was a super fan of Mud, and my parents were both close friends with Les Gray back in the day. My dad passed away just last week and this was the song he wanted playing at the end of his funeral. Brings tears to my eyes. Beautiful song. RIP Les, and Dad

Sorry about your dad. Been loving this song again recently even more than I did when it was first in the charts. Great choice for a funeral. Really special song

I always really liked the instrumental part at the end of this-and still do!! I spoke to Dave Mount at the bar (in the Town & Country Club,Kentish Town in 81 or 82) and told him i really liked this instrumental part and I asked him who arranged it and he said 'we did'.I met him a few more times in the early 80s and I even went to his flat one Sunday afternoon!I'm still very sorry he died and aged only 59-and that one can find out so little about it online!!?He was a very nice bloke!!

My cousins lived near to his flat and whenever we’d see him, Dave always waved & said hi 💜 Sometimes we saw all of Mud wandering about in Tooting, where I lived! I discovered years later about the recording studios over what is now the Mixed Blessings bakery :) They were all really lovely guys, especially to star-struck teens 😁

I served Mud coffee at the Royal Hotel Scunthorpe in the seventies. Lean on me should be released again and be in the top 3. Superb version like Oh Boy with the accapella.

I first heard this song back in the 70's. I did see Mud played at the club fiesta in Norton, Stockton on Tees and twice that was. Really good band and this song brings back many memories for me. Thank you so much.

I was never a Mud fan, but Paul Gambaccini has just played this on BBC R2's Pick of the Pops, and I'd quite forgotten how this was such a beautifully performed and produced number - what ever happened to the guy in the frock...?

Mud's version is reasonable. But the great RNB artists are better with this one. I always preferred Mud's original work to their covers (although they did interpret their covers their way, which is good). Mud - the great British Party Band of the 70s. They provided so much fun for everyone.
