Honest, hunting, harmless and best friend this dog. These are famous as Mudhol dogs in north karntaka. Basically people uses these dogs in some fairs for hunting rabbits, Wild Boar etc. Those are sharp brain,eyes, that just whistle need to take them in action.

Thos dog has no connection to Shivaji, infact the Ghorpade's of Mudhol were enemies of Shivaji and had once caught his father Shambaji and kept him hostage. Also when the King of Mudhol gifted a pair of these hounds to Queen Elizabeth of England, she christened them Mudhol Hounds.

Sorry got sent in mid sentence. Dog breeds with narrow waists and deep chests, that is most gaze-hound or fast running breeds, tend to get a serious health problem called gastric torsion. In this if the dog is allowed to do a lot of running after a heavy meal, it's stomach tends to twist the intestines. If this happens the animal needs immediate qualified veterinary attention. The prevention is easy -- don't feed one heavy meal a day ,but split into two meals a day. Also avoid letting the dog go for a run or chase something immediately after a meal.
