"What positively amazed [Kurt] was seeing Mark Arm of Mudhoney, standing stage right, bopping his head back and forth during all of Nirvana's set. Mark Arm, whose real name was Mark McLaughlin, was certifiably the tastemaker for Seattle punk rock. While Pavitt and Poneman [of Sub Pop, the label Mudhoney and Nirvana were both signed to] had craftily capitalized on grunge, Arm, with his band Mudhoney and his previous group Green River, had virtually invented the musical style, & (see next comment)

Kurt Cobain actually looked up to Mark a lot as at the time in Seattle, Mudhoney and Mark Arm were essentially the pioneers of grunge music, Mark pretty much came up with the word 'grunge'. Both bands were signed to SubPop. At a show Nirvana played, Kurt looked to the side and saw Mark dancing and enjoying his music. This was a great compliment for Kurt at the time. I'm not saying Kurt copied Mark, because he definitely didn't. Nirvana is my favourite band and Kurt is one of my main role models.

Artist influence each other but Kurt was a natural superstar, a freak and had a unique sound and prolific in writing simple lyrics with catchy tunes , combined with heavy sound, punk, pop or a Beatle influence and guitar rock. Mud honey is awesome but Grunge was a term made by the media that wants to put labels on music. Gen X was influenced by punk rock, the psychedelic era and the freedom to create music on your own terms due to the 80s. Kids from our generation grew up with Led Zepplin, the Beatles, Pink Floyd. Bowie, Jeff Beck, Queen etc. amazing musicians so it’s no wonder these boys grew to create these sounds.

Mudhoney has always had a much more a Nuggets garage sound than the Grunge label they got put in...I got to see Roky last year in London. I didnt know what i was about to see . The anticipation of knowing rokys back history and for him to travel all that way to the U.K The Audience was on tenterhooks. We had all seen the clips or the Documentary on Roky Was we about to see a Guy so far gone or would he pull the tricks out of a hat .Roky came out smiling waving to the Audience. The band slung a guitar around his neck which Roky used more as a prop then a Instrument. He strummed then stopped but started again while the back up band of Youngsters ploughed through the complete first LP .Rokys voice was crisp and clear and there was Nothing to worry about at all.Amazing emotional concert .It was just Lovely to see such a transformation from the state Roky was in in the Documentary under the Influence of his Mother to how he is now . Its an amazing story. And Roky looks well and happy .. Mudhoney. ..They played last year in London and i got to see them also. One of the best times ive ever seen them ..Ive been going to most of their london shows since about 89.Ive seen them Young, the heroin years and back all cleaned up again. I cant imagine them not performing. But im sure one day they wil have to stop from age or boredom of travelling .But for now if ever they play London again i will be down the front .

You should check out the band "Truly," especially their criminally forgotten major label debut, "Fast Stories...from Kid Coma." And "Dayglo" by the band Love Battery. Both of these groups were Sup Pop acts which didn't quite find the status the others did. Truly got caught in an unfortunate deal, and released their album in 1995 as the Seattle craze eas being replaced by boy band pop, soft, post-grunge acts like Presidents of the USA, Everclear, and shit like that. Nirvana and Screaming Trees are my favorites, then Alice in Chains and Soundgarden.

@SkyHammer99 I am not a fan of Pearl Jam, either. To me, Pearl Jam is the only act from that era and scene that has dated poorly. "Ten," perhaps due to the odd choice to reverb the fuck out of everything, sounds aged and kind of fake. I'm not musical enough to describe why Pearl Jam is so dated when the other acts from the era are not, but it is to me.

Mudhoney formed from the ashes of Green River, Matt Lukin used to play bass in The Melvins, Cobain used to appear on stage in the early days with Mudhoney. Nirvana broke big when Thurston got 'em signed to Geffen. Mudhoney are jobbing musicians & very underrated but they were one of the first 'names' on the Grunge scene for sure along with Tad, Sound Garden, Pearl Jam etc. but never broke massive like (in my opinion) lesser bands like Pearl Jam/Soungarden & Nirvana.

WRONG - Mudhoney predates Nirvana. Nirvana started out as an opening act for Mudhoney. If it weren't for Mudhoney the whole grunge thing may not have happened. They were the first and at the center of the storm in the early days. Nirvana copied Mudhoney in some respects I'd say. The first time I saw Nirvana live I thought Cobain was trying to imitate Mark Arm.
