It is a traditional song. Phil Lynott & Lizzy didn't know the entire song. There's actually 7 verses in the song & Lizzy's is completely wrong. Metallica covered Lizzy's version & Lizzy's version is unique to them... Because it's completely wrong. Not hating. I love Tin Lizzie, just Phil didn't actually know the lyrics as it was originally meant to be a filler B-side rather than their biggest hit!

‘Whiskey In The Jar’ is actually a very old Celtic song that was the Irish drinking anthem and The Dubliners covered it first, the Thin Lizzy did a cover of it, then Metallica did a cover of it, so basically Metallica did a cover of a cover
