Hi Nicola, just finished a book set in early Victorian period, thought I’d share a snippet... Set around Blackfriars.. It was past midnight, and London was as quiet as she ever was: the sound of carriages never stopped completely, nor the cries and calls of the dwellers in the city, or the lively chatter of the Mudlarks at the side of the river, picking through the detritus the Thames coughed up for any items of value .... 😊 Love your detritus!

Awesome! I would've kept that Gold Ring bottle too! Although I could tell from the cursive writing on it it was machine made, maybe 1910s-20s. The style makes me think it held peppers, like those yellow pickled pepper rings they put on sandwiches. I love those. Who knows?!? Happy Birthday! Mine was the second, 47 now. Yeah that was a .22 Long Rifle round, the first one was .455 Webley with jacketed bullet so 1899-WW1 period. Yeah pickled banana pepper rings, so "Golden Ring" would make perfect sense.

It could be a "plumb bob", they are mounted on a piece of chord and used for checking how perpendicular a wall is under construction ( or similar) or alternatively it could be used with a long knotted chord, the knots being at regular measured intervals for checking the depth of water under a ship, bit looks rather small for that task, maybe it's intended for a very small boat :-)
