Great Video... I sit here smiling... because I'm one of those "Old Timers" that was a Mud logger way back in the late 70s & early 80s... We didn't have ANYthing like computers, etc... We gathered our samples, every 10' and we had a magnifier... and something like a Gas Chromatography... and we had to know our samples by looking and knowing what there were, without testing.... I made $75. a day for 12 hours a day... some times working for 30 straight days without a day off... Personally I loved doing coring... not samples to be caught. I also became a Mud Chem. Engineer later... Even though I'm 64 years old.. I'm applying for a Mudlogging job... Wish me well...

Thanks for all your views and comments. For the negative comments on the catching and analyzing of the drill cuttings! We were filming while we were tripping out of the hole with a barrel of core as I mentioned!!! There were no pumps on the hole therefore no flow. That is why we acted out catching the samples with a strainer and did not test, test, test the drill cuttings that we caught, tested and analyzed many hours prior!!! Much love, JCB

Thank you all for such lively discussions. Though we respect your philosophical debate please keep in mind this is an educational video designed for the general public and as such does not get into the nitty gritty of the job. Jeff and Les were at our drill site for several weeks, and we have condensed their work into a 6 minute preview. Everything that you see in this video had been previously analyzed, and the footage of Les collecting samples and Jeff analyzing them was a reenactment done specifically for this video. The people who worked on our drill site were very knowledgeable and we were very pleased with their contributions to this project.

Would you consider this a good job for a Geology & Physics major fresh out of undergrad?
@KGSUK9 жыл бұрын
+Seth Hi Seth! Yes working for a mudlogging company would be a perfect entry level job for someone interested in petroleum geology. It would be a great way for you to gain valuable experience in oil and gas operations, and learning subsurface geology.

For a general geology major yes it's good, not necessarily a physics major no, but it still gets your feet wet and it has good pay for an entry level job @@precisi0n86
