I helped a friend put one of these up, with scaffolding, the two of us had much less of a struggle.

very cool... I've been looking into a prefab steel building myself ...as a garage
@MudRFunR8 жыл бұрын
Honestly, These buildings are way more work than anyone could expect. I started this in late August. Everything but the front wall is done now. It is taking forever to finish. I do work full time and had some other projects on the go but it is very much work.
@normbograham4 жыл бұрын
Neighbors built the scaffoling, with 2x6's, then moved it thru the build. They used 2x4's, to push up the middle from the underside, instead of pulling down, which is what you are doing. Women (farm girls) put it up, men bolted.

Yes, I realize there were better ways to do this. Thanks for watching!

yeah...those are a lot more work than they tell you . we did one ..years ago ..all we do now is pole barns and pre engineered .

Now that its been a few years how is the building holding up? I'm thinking of buying one of these myself from "future steel buildings".
@MudRFunR Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I would never buy another one. I could have had a pole barn built for nearly the same price. It's difficult to insulate. The arching walls don't allow much shelving on the sides. The building is solid enough but never again for me.
@danfillingim9181 Жыл бұрын
@@MudRFunR thanks for the info, I will look into the pole barn style garages now.
@MudRFunR Жыл бұрын
@@danfillingim9181 I have been unsatisfied with my steel building starting even before it was fully built. The cost of the cement pad was also a shocker. Future Buildings won't give you the plans until you put money down. That's when you find out that it requires deep footings all around the cement pad. My cement pad cost over $7000 to pour. I'm sure the price would be way more by now. The cement guy said a pole barn is much easier to pour because you just have to fill it after the building is built. With this pad he had to use forms to get the required depth. Almost doubled the cement cost compared to a pole barn or garage.
@danfillingim9181 Жыл бұрын
@@MudRFunR damn!! That’s expensive, does the pole barns frame get encased in cement on the bottom or do you just pour a square pad within it?
@MudRFunR Жыл бұрын
@@danfillingim9181 I honestly don't know for sure but I would think that it would encase the bottom.

You are probably right. I had no idea how to go about this project going into it. Learned as it went up and admitted to many of my mistakes. Building is solid.

Did u ever do any insulation Spray foam seems the only way to go?
@MudRFunR3 жыл бұрын
I have started to insulate the walls. I used 1/2" OSB sheets with foamboard insulation between the metal and OSB and stuffed the deeper section with fiberglass insulation. I've only finished one wall, so it's hard to tell if it made any difference. The ceiling I'm not sure how that would work any other way than spay foam.

how do you feel about this building in snow country? do you know the gauge of the panels? thanks
@MudRFunR4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure offhand what the gauge the metal is. It seems to hold a lot of snow.In general, I do not like this building.

I like the video and wanted one of the buildings. But now I'm thinking twice. Are they really charging tens of thousands or in the upwards of 10k and no beams or framing. Just some flimsy tin and bolts?. We'll keep it up and thanks
@MudRFunR5 жыл бұрын
The building has no beams but it is rather sturdy. Not just cheap tin. (some variety of metals that I can't recall) BUT simply just the shape of it makes it difficult to add shelves and even insulation is going to be a pain. Anyway by the time everything was complete with front wall and door, it cost over 16k. A pole barn would be a much better bang for your buck (MY opinion) It's not near as easy to assemble as the sales people lead you to believe.
@StephenSonOfErick825 жыл бұрын
@@MudRFunR gotcha. It kinda reminded me of not tin. IDK y I said tin but maybe it is tin. But it reminded me of a thinner version of that stuff they use to use as carport covers in apts.. maybe it's the size that makes it appear to be flimsier than it is. My thing was they show shops and other buildings that may need to be structurally sound and need beams / some type of framing.. how's the load capacity for snow / Wind /rain etc?
@MudRFunR5 жыл бұрын
@@StephenSonOfErick82 I've had about 3 feet of snow on top. No issues. No movement from wind but I do have one leak. I think the rubber on the bolt got squished. All the bolts need to be re-tightened now that everything has settled. I can see daylight though some of the seams but no leaks because of the way they overlap.

I hope your building will make you happy, something like this would never work in my country, and no wood buildings, everything here is reinfocred and insulated concrete

I had no idea Iceland had no wood buildings. A steel building would be very cold, eh? Thanks for sharing that info. It's always great to learn things from other places in the world!

@MudRFunR8 жыл бұрын
Yes they do. At one point I called to have some questions answered because the salesman talked like a politician. I asked to speak to someone else and they put me through to the same guy I asked not to speak to. This time he answered my questions. Too bad most of it was untrue. My bad, I should have gone with my gut and built a pole barn.
