I put one of these up a couple years ago. I used a long 2x4 with a V cut in the end, put 1 bolt in each bottom side and pushed up the top center with ease. I could have done myself, but my father helped me. Once it is up and o ever the ridge, it will stay. Just add bolts and nuts

I did a 30x40 with a 17 foot high peak by myself. I bolted the first panel and arch together and stood it up and bolted it to the base plate, then used scaffolding and a 2x4 to slide the roof panel to the arch on both sides and used wire to suport the panels until I got the peak panel bolted for my first arch. After that I just started with the wall panel and worked my way up to the peak all by myself.

We even had to have parts made because the instructions to the one we THOUGHT we bought, according to the picture they sent, were NOT even close! Glad to have so many friends willing to help! And that's a small one. We just built a fifty foot wide and ropes alone don't work. The pulley needs to be above the top so it doesn't pull the arch downward. Then with the bigger ones you need a spreader bar or else the weight will fold the arches. The manual is full of crap and I'd like to see the factory make a video of the assembly "unedited"!
@MudRFunR

For the most part this worked well. Near the end, we had to add a pulley to help lift and not just pull it. I will never assemble one again. Not worth the effort. A pole barn would be better.

Challenging is a nicer word than what I've been thinking. When they sell you the building, they make it sound so easy to assemble. Not the case. I could have built a pole barn in less time and for less money. Very deceiving when the salesmen talk. It's all assembled no but still working on the front wall. And a good day to you!

Just found your videos and wanted to say a big thanks for doing that. I am in BC and am thinking about a garage so it was good to find a Canada video . How did it stand up in the snow? That's my biggest concern as I am in the North Okanagan and winters can be harsh. Had 6 feet of snow this winter. What was the total project cost? I think you did good on the build. Your a DIY guy and trial and error beats paying for labour so good on ya. You got results for your labours and that's what counts irregardless of what some sales guy says.
@MudRFunR
@MudRFunR 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for such a wonderful comment! We are in southern Ontario with less snow. I've had about 3 feet of snow on the building in the winter. The building is very solid. The bolts need to be re-tightened. Something that I heard was common after everything settles. If I include the front wall with the door, it cost us over $16 000 to build. That's without any insulation. Personally, I would never build one again. The rounded sides make it impossible to add enough shelving on the sides. The cement cost over $7000 and that's without the cement that has to be added to fill the sides in after the walls are up. The cement has to have deep footings to support the tension on the sides when there is a snow load on it. A pole barn would be similar in price and the cement can be poured in after the walls are up as opposed to the steel building which requires such deep footings. Hope this helps.

I thought you did a pretty good job of figuring things out as you went along. I especially like the hillbilly scafolding or whatever you called it. A guy could spend more money on the lifts and things to get one of these up than he paid for the building . I actually prefer putting up a grain bin which I did and made into a house. Its actually a lot easier now that I see how hard this is. Less bolts too. Best wishes.

Couldn't you just attach a couple of long boards (like 2x4's) to the back of each arch to hold it together, raise it, bolt it to the last one and take off the support boards? Actually, it seems like a kit like this should have some sort of assembly jig to bolt to the arches in a few spots and hold the shape (kind of like my 2x4 idea but better)
@MudRFunR
@MudRFunR 4 жыл бұрын
Nothing like that in the kit but it mentions bracing the first one to hold the center up. I didn't because I was able to secure it to the carport instead. The strap across the center steadied it a lot. 2x4's would have braced it better. I'm just not sure if that would have made them too heavy to lift with my makeshift winching system.

I got one of these buildings bought from “steel building pros” out of VA I’d highly recommend not using them. These companies are just middle men that don’t listen to customers. I asked the salesman for a building with 14 ft side walls. Once I got to assembly they sent me 6 ft side walls and to correct this problem they want another $6-9k I’d suggest building a pole barn. It’s way simpler and customizable. Avoid these over prices carports

Next time bolt sections together to stiffen it up. Fasten a couple of 2x4’s together to make a dead man, raise the sections high enough to get the dead man under the center section and lift the center portion up. The issue was not, having enough people to raise it, but more of failure to properly plan how to raise it. You can’t blame the design or the salesman. If the Egyptians could build the pyramids out of 5 ton blocks, this should’ve been cake.

@@MudRFunR salesmen are like politicians, they tell you what you want to hear but have no experience in what they are talking about. Instructions are written by design engineers who assemble these buildings in big open buildings under perfect world conditions. Having assembled a number of these buildings and Quonset huts in the military, i can tell you from first hand experience that the instructions are useless. How we normally did it was assemble two sections together on the ground to give it some stiffness. After standing the assembly up and bolting it to the foundation tray, we brought up each individual piece and bolted them in place. Doing it like this gave you access to the top and bottom fasteners at the same time. When it says two men can assemble it, this is what they are talking about. 1 man on a scaffold assembling and bolting, another on the ground handing up individual pieces and pushing the scaffolding around. From 100’w X 500’l X 30’h, to 20’X20x10, they were all done in the same manner. We tried using cranes and telehandlers...that just added too much time with rigging and slinging. Much faster assembling it in pieces.

one, none of the instructions for the erection of this building are useful. they are stupid, unsafe, require excessively expensive equipment, and too much manual labor. the building needs to be erected one layer at a time and when it comes to the top/final panels, they need to be held in place with a pipefitters crane which also requires the use of scaffolding. I did NOT use any of the instructions from the manufacturer but erected the building by myself using the crane which held the panels in place. erect the side walls first, then the eaves, then the roof panels then the top panels. you must also install the end panels before erecting the upper panels to hold them up while bolting them in place. although I did not video the process, I did take pictures throughout and pictures of the equipment. all the sellers of these buildings use the same erection instructions which are all stupidly unsafe and expensive.
