The leaping blenny (alticus saliens) has a similar adaptation except they don't use mud they prefer to just jump on rocks near the shore. Similar to the mudskipper, these blennies will get out of the water and find cracks in between rocks to make a den for their partner to lay eggs, which still have access to water. Blennies and gobies tend to have the ability of climbing rocks, and waterfalls.

The dorsal fin reminded me of Dimetrodon and Spinosaurus; in the mudskipper's case, it seems to be used mostly for intimidation. Sails can be made visible while the animal lies prone. A point in favor for those who argue that sails are used more for communication rather than thermoregulation.

Just started watching this video. I had a mud skipper as a pet about 20 years ago, and I have to say it was one of the most engaging little fish I ever had. He spent most of his time sitting just at the water line on top of a rock. He would hop over to my hand to take food right from my fingers. I fed him on a combination of fish flakes and meal worms. There was a crab in the tank that would hang out on the rock with the mud skipper that would also eat the fish flakes. The mud skipper would hop into my hand, and I could walk around the house with it. Take care all. Mudskipper fights - who has the biggest yawn - YAAAWWWNNN. For reference, see the Sarcastic Fringe Head. Yes that's a fish, look it up.
