Disney went from cutting edge 2D animation to colorless digital sludge.

We need one of these Disney live-action remakes to go full Cats and sink the whole enterprise. Just not sure I want it to be the one made by a great director.

All this conversation does is make me want to go rewatch the real Lion King. Hakuna matata!

Couldn't be less interested, but I fear that my kids will want to go. Hopefully, they are more excited about Sonic 3. As for me, I'm seeing Babygirl and Nosferatu on my own on Xmas Day.

The Underground Railroad was incredible, shame Jenkins wasn't able/allowed to bring more of himself to this project esp as he didn't write the script which isn't usually the case for him :( As Moana 2's very lukewarm reviews haven't prevented it from hitting $720m worldwide after only its 3rd wkend, can see the same for Mufasa esp after the '19 movie grossed an insane $1.66bn!

Ever since it was announced that Barry Jenkins was the director of this movie I said “I won’t believe it until I see it.” I guess he really is the director! 😂 My theory is this: Jenkins saw Guy Ritchie sell out once for the Aladdin remake, and then crank out one of his movies annually ever since, and thought he’d get on that same hustle. Do what you gotta do, Barry!

I'm sincerely glad Barry got his Disney bucks, but I'll just rewatch _Moonlight_ again. Maybe a Barry Jenkins Pixar original would've been interesting?
@emanuellawton79429 сағат бұрын
The Disney corporate mandates helped bury Barry Jenkins' style and creativity.

How old even are Timon and Pumbaa? It's like the first time you learn Wolverine is like 150 years old, except not like that because it's dumb.

Do you know what would be a Disney animated movie worth remaking in live-action? Treasure Planet. That film has a legitimate cult following, and I believe modern CGI could bring the unique 18th-century space pirate aesthetic to life in an interesting way. Plus, I feel that Treasure Island is also due for a new adaptation generally speaking.

Is that separation more scaring than Mufasa's death scene in the original story? Because I'm still scared by it

My kids are grown now but back in the day we took them to The lion king, Alladin, Tarzan etc and we were more than happy to buy them the soundtrack as we were happy to listen to it too. I have only felt like that once in the last decade or so and that was the first Moana. They need to find new musical creators.

The first “live action” movie is one of my least favorite theater-going experiences of all time, so this is an easy skip, but I appreciate Jenkins securing the paycheck for him and his team during the pandemic. Seems like a one for them, one for me sort of thing, though I worry that it might backfire if this does poorly at the box office.

The longer you guys talk the more unnecessary this movie sounds. I don’t think, honestly, that anyone was wondering where Rafiki got his staff or how pride rock was formed. That sounds extremely uninteresting and anti-climactic.

Surprised about the music comments. I listened to I Always Wanted A Brother and thought it was super catchy. Don't know about the one they've shortlisted for the Oscars.

No hate for LMM, but the Moana 2 songs deliver for the story more than these. I saw Moana 2 a second time today and it's a beautiful movie and I love the songs in it.

I will not be seeing this, but I'm kind of hoping that this is decent/successful enough to not warrant more Lion King movies, but not enough to hurt Jenkins' career. I fear if the movie flops, they'll blame him in the same way Marvel blamed Nia Dicosta for The Marvels flopping.
@Eidlones6 сағат бұрын
I doubt Disney actually blames them, and it's more a statement for audiences. "Disney isn't bad, it was just this one director! Look forward to the next Disney movie cause we're still great!"
@acarter92776 сағат бұрын
I will watch Mufasa but not in theaters. Disney doesn't deserve money for the agenda they placed in the movie.

A live action movie with animals will never work…as it will never will have the soul of an animal documentary… just look at the German 1959 Oscar winning documentary…“Serengeti shall not die“ ..real authentic animals…great music…a live action movie with animals will always be fake…

It's still creepy to see photo realistic CGI animals singing and without showing much emotion or facial expressions. In real life animals don't show much emotion or facial expressions and they don't sing and dance either so it looks so odd to see that displayed on the big screen.

I am not the fan of Jenkins like you two or many others are, "Moonlight" was good but best picture I did not agree with. LaLa Land, Arrival, Hell or High Water and Manchester by the Sea were all better IMO. It is a shame they are missing the mark on these lion king movies.

I’m still going to watch this. However, Barry Jenkins.. for the love of all good and righteous, please stay away from the big machine and go back to the basics. Moonlight and If Beale Street Could Talk are wonderful great films. Give us Giovanni’s Room or The Bluest Eye next.

The only element that captured my interest was Barry Jenkins being attached as director. Moonlight is about as perfect as a film can get, so...I assumed there HAD to be something noteworthy here. So far, it's been overwhelming responses of "meh," and that's quite a bummer. 🫤
